A method and system for transmitting at least one client signal within a server signal which has a predetermined transmission bit rate, with the transmission bit rate of the client signal and the transmission bit rate of the server signal being different. To this end, at least one identification number, which indicates the transmission bit rate relationships, is determined for at least one client signal at the transmission end, and the data in the at least one client signal are inserted uniformly into the server signal via sigma-delta modulation and using the determined identification number. The server signal is transmitted with the determined identification number and, at the receiving end, the data in the at least one client signal is determined via sigma-delta modulation and using the transmitted identification number.

Method and system for transmitting at least one client signal within a server signal

Methods for protecting data signals which are being transmitted via optical conductors are disclosed. At least one operational optical conductor set that is connected at both ends to optical switching devices is provided for the purpose of bi-directional transmission of the data signals. A stand-by optical conductor set is also connected at both ends to the optical switching devices. In the event of interference on at least one optical conductor of the operational optical conductor set, such as a signal failure determined at the receiving end, there is a switchover at the receiving end from the respective operational optical conductor set to the stand-by optical conductor set. Consequently, there is a signal failure at the opposite end, and immediately thereupon there is also a similar switchover at the opposite end to the stand-by optical conductor set.

Methods for protecting data signals which are being transmitted via optical conductors

Given a measuring arrangement at the transmission side (MQ), quality criteria of the useful load signals (WS) are transmitted together with a timing mark to the measuring arrangement at the reception side (MS) at the end of a transmission path (OMS ) in a given time interval. The measuring arrangement at the reception side (MS) carries out the same measuring procedures , compares both measured values (MEQ, MES) and sends the measuring result (ME) to a central location (ZS).

Method for monitoring the signal quality in optical networks

In an optical plug-type connection between two optical conductors having an optical terminal which receives an optical plug-type member, an electrical connection is provided for verifying that the optical plug-type connection has been made and/or released. This verification reduces the likelihood of an optical plug-type connection being erroneously acquired in the network management system and, thus, significantly reduces problems in locating errors in the optical communication system.

A scanner circuit for digital signals with high data rate includes an arrangement for timing pulse recovery formed by a scanner stage for scanning a digital signal and an edge discriminator that evaluates at least one edge of the scanned digital signal and that controls a digital oscillator that generates a data timing signal.
