A fuel injector in injection systems for internal combustion engines having a valve body containing a control chamber that can be pressure-relieved and can be acted on with fuel via an inlet throttle and can be pressure-relieved via an outlet throttle. A first actuator can actuate a closing element. The valve body is connected to a holding body that has a nozzle body connected to it, which encompasses an injection valve element. In order to relieve the pressure in the control chamber, an additional, second outlet throttle is provided, whose closing element can be actuated either by an additional actuator or as a function of the power supply to a double-switching actuator.

In an internal combustion engine, in particular with direct injection, a first fuel pump delivers fuel from a fuel tank to a second fuel pump. This second fuel pump delivers the fuel to a fuel accumulation line. A metering unit is triggered by a control and/or regulating unit and meters the fuel quantity traveling into the inlet of the second fuel pump. In order to simplify the design of the engine and to reduce its cost, the invention proposes that during normal operation, the metering unit is closed when it is without power and that when the control and/or regulating unit is &ldquo;dead&rdquo;, the metering unit is without power and the fuel delivery to the metering unit is cut off.

A pump assembly having a main pump and a prefeed pump which pumps fuel out of a tank. The fuel is pumped through a crank chamber of the main pump. Downstream of the crank chamber f the main pump a return line is provided for the portion of the fuel which is used as lubricant to return to the tank. Also downstream of the crank chamber feed course directs fuel to a metering unit and on to the main pump. To make the pump assembly as simply as possible the prefeed pump is mechanically driven, and a zero-feed course branches off between the metering unit and the main feed pump to return fuel to the intake side of the prefeed pump. A throttle is disposed in the zero-feed course.

A method for calibrating a pressure sensor in a fuel metering system and a corresponding device, which enable the pressure sensor to be calibrated as precisely as possible. For this purpose, the instantaneous cooling-water temperature of the internal combustion engine is measured and the drop in the cooling-water temperature is derived therefrom as a measure for the standstill time of the internal combustion engine, the pressure sensor first being calibrated when the standstill time exceeds a predefinable minimum. Thus, an arrangement for monitoring the cooling-water temperature already present per se in the vehicle may be used to reliably and precisely calibrate the pressure sensor. Therefore, this is able to be realized very quickly and almost without extra expenses, in particular without using an additional timing supervision for measuring the standstill time. The method and the corresponding device are well suited for calibrating pressure sensors in the high-pressure region (rail pressure sensors) as well as for calibrating sensors in the low-pressure region (presupply pressure sensors).

The present invention relates to a device and a method for dividing up a total fuel amount, which is to be injected into the combustion chamber of a cylinder during a combustion cycle, into a plurality of injections. To this end, a first fuel amount, which is to be injected during a first injection is determined, a fourth, minimum fuel amount for a third injection is determined, and the total fuel amount minus the first fuel amount is compared to the fourth, minimum fuel amount. When the total fuel amount minus the first fuel amount is greater than or equal to the fourth, minimum fuel amount, the first fuel amount and a second fuel amount, which is to be injected into the combustion chamber of the cylinder during a second injection, are set to zero, and a third fuel amount, which is to be injected during a third injection, is set to the total fuel amount.

The invention relates to a high-pressure pump for fuel delivery in fuel injection systems of internal combustion engines, which includes a tank, a pre-feed pump, and the high-pressure pump. The pre-feed pump aspirates a total fuel flow from the tank and this total fuel flow is divided into a lubricating flow, which is conveyed through the high-pressure pump for the purpose of lubrication, and a delivery flow, which is acted on with high pressure by the high-pressure pump and is delivered to a common distributor rail. The fuel injection system prevents damage that could occur during operation. Damage is prevented because the total fuel flow is conveyed through the high-pressure pump for the purpose of lubrication, wherein a metering unit for the total fuel flow is provided in the high-pressure pump or in a return and assures that only a predetermined delivery flow is acted on with high pressure in the high-pressure pump. The fuel injection system according to the invention has the advantage that fewer separate parts are required. This reduces costs.
