A procedure for changing, in particular for updating, a firmware of a head station of a modular node, having a transfer of a compatibility verification routine stored on the head station from the head station on which a first firmware is stored in a nonvolatile manner to a computer connected to the head station, a verification using the verification routine executed on the computer as to whether a second firmware is compatible with the head station, and a replacement of the first firmware on the head station by the second firmware if the verification has the result that the second firmware is compatible with the head station, and also a suitably equipped head station.

Firmware update of components of a modular node

A procedure for changing, in particular for updating a control program of an input/output module (I/O module), wherein the I/O module is attached side-by-side to a head station of a modular fieldbus node, said procedure comprising transferring data describing the change from the head station via a local bus to the I/O module, wherein the local bus connects the head station to the I/O module, checking the compatibility of the I/O module with the change by the I/O module, and transferring feedback, based on the checked compatibility of the I/O module, from the I/O module via the local bus to the head station; a correspondingly configured I/O module is also presented.

Updating components of a modular system

A method for initializing a system that includes a base module and a first and a second expansion module, wherein the first and the second expansion modules are electrically, detachably connected to the base module and each have one or more electrical peripheral interfaces. The method includes the execution of an initialization routine by the system. The initialization routine includes the querying of the first and the second expansion modules with regard to description data that include characteristics of the electrical peripheral interfaces and an identifier of the first and the second expansion modules, the storage of a data structure that includes the queried description data, and the provision of the data structure to a configuration device.
