The invention concerns a method for operating an internal combustion engine () having a plurality of combustion chambers (), in the case of which the combustion chambers () are charged with fuel and air or with a fuel/air mixture. In order to prevent torque jumps from occurring when cylinders () of the internal combustion engine () are shut down and when switching the operating mode of direct-injection internal combustion engines (), it is proposed that the charging of the combustion chambers () with fuel and air or with a fuel/air mixture be controlled individually via open-loop or closed-loop control for each combustion chamber (). In the case of a direct-injection internal combustion engine (), a certain number of combustion chambers () can be operated with homogenous-charge operation, and the remaining combustion chambers () can be operated with stratified-charge operation in accordance with the level of torque required.

A device for regulating the energy supply for the ignition of an internal combustion engine including an ignition coil and a central control unit, the ignition coil including a primary winding and an ignition power module connected to the primary winding. The central control unit ascertains a time difference between the beginning of current flow through the primary winding and the reaching of a first threshold value of the primary current, and in the light of the time difference, the central control unit determines an additional power loss of the ignition power module and/or active energy reduction, caused by interturn short circuits in the primary winding. Device and method for regulating the energy supply for ignition in an internal combustion engine

A method for adjusting the torque in an internal combustion engine is introduced having the steps: determining a desired torque; determining an operating point from measured values for air charge and rpm; determining a standard torque for this operating point; determining a desired efficiency from standard torque and desired torque; determining the lambda corresponding to this efficiency; determining the fuel quantity from the corresponding lambda and the air charge derived from measurement quantities. The fuel quantity in combination with the air charge yields the corresponding lambda for realizing the desired torque.

Method for determining the controller output for controlling fuel injection engines

A method and an arrangement for operating internal combustion engines is suggested which is operated in at least one operating state with a lean air/fuel mixture. The fuel mass, which is to be injected, or the injection time, which is to be outputted, is determined in dependence upon a desired value. For monitoring the operability, the actual torque of the engine is determined on the basis of the fuel mass, which is to be injected, or the injection time, which is to be outputted, or the outputted injection time and compared to a maximum permissible torque and a fault reaction is initiated when the actual torque exceeds the maximum permissible torque. Parallel to the above, a quantity, which represents the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas, is compared to at least one pregiven limit value and a fault reaction is initiated when this quantity exceeds the limit value.
