A bearing component such as a bearing ring includes a metallic base body and at least one alloy steel coating on the base body, the coating being applied to the base body by deposition welding. The base body is preferably non-alloy steel or cast iron, and the alloy includes at least one carbide-forming transition metal such as niobium, tantalum, zirconium, titanium, hafnium, tungsten, molybdenum, vanadium, or manganese. The coating can form a raceway of the bearing component or a structural element such as a flange. Also a method of forming such a bearing component is provided.

Bearing component having a metallic base body and an alloy-steel coating

A rolling-element bearing includes an inner ring made of steel and having an inner-ring raceway, an outer ring having an outer ring raceway, and ceramic rolling elements which roll on the inner-ring raceway and on the outer-ring raceway. The inner ring has been subjected to a heat treatment to harden it. The heat treatment is concluded with the performance of a final heat-treatment step at a predetermined temperature. In the inner ring, compressive residual stresses are formed in an outer layer by cold working in the region of the inner-ring raceway. The inner ring also has been subjected to a bluing treatment.

Rolling-element bearing and method of manufacturing thereof

A method for manufacturing a raceway element of a bearing assembly includes hardening a raceway element having a raceway surface by at least partially heating the raceway element, deep rolling the raceway surface using a first rolling element, and then deep rolling the raceway surface using a second rolling element. The first rolling element has at least one different dimension than the second rolling element. In the resulting raceway element, compressive residual stresses of at least 400 MPa are present at a depth from the raceway surface of 200 &#x3bc;m or less, and between the raceway surface and a depth of 100 &#x3bc;m from the raceway surface, the amount of the compressive residual stresses changes by 500 MPa or less.

Method for producing a track element of a bearing assembly

A method for manufacturing a rolling-element bearing includes forming an inner ring from a steel having a sulfur content of 0.002 to 0.015 mass % and an oxygen content of less than 15 ppm, subjecting the inner ring to a hardening heat treatment that ends by performing a final heat treatment step at a predetermined temperature, cold working the inner-ring raceway to generate compressive residual stresses at least in a surface layer of the inner-ring raceway, subjecting the inner ring to a bluing treatment and subjecting the blued inner ring to a thermal post-treatment process at a temperature below the predetermined temperature of the final hardening heat treatment step. The resulting rolling-element bearing may exhibit compressive residual stresses having an absolute value of at least 200 MPa at 0.1 mm beneath the outer surface of the inner-ring raceway and a maximum value of 1500 MPa or less throughout the inner ring.
