A playback apparatus includes a data source () that provides a data stream signal (d), and a device () responsive to the data stream signal. The device forms a first data stream (d) in a first data format (F), wherein the first data stream (d) includes a data field (D) that is encoded in a second data format (F). A code converter () is responsive to the first data stream (d), and converts selected parts of the first data stream (d) to a second data stream (d) that has data encoded in a third data format (F). An output decoder () forms playback signals from the second data stream (d). The playback signal may be audio and/or video signals that are presented to the appropriate audio transducer or display device for presentation to a playback apparatus user(s).

Playback apparatus

A playback apparatus includes a data source ( ) that provides a data stream signal (d ), and a device ( ) responsive to the data stream signal. The device forms a first data stream (d ) in a first data format (F ), wherein the first data stream (d ) includes a data field (D ) that is encoded in a second data format (F ). A code converter ( ) is responsive to the first data stream (d ), and converts selected parts of the first data stream (d ) to a second data stream (d ) that has data encoded in a third data format (F ). An output decoder ( ) forms playback signals from the second data stream (d ). The playback signal may be audio and/or video signals that are presented to the appropriate audio transducer or display device for presentation to a playback apparatus user(s).

An audio playback apparatus for an input data stream (d0) delivered by an audio data source (1) in a standardized data format (F1) is disclosed comprising an input decoder (2) for forming a first data stream (d1), which contains the audio information and is separated by means of an output decoder (5) into its audio signal components (L, R). In addition to the first data stream (d1), the input decoder (2) generates a second data stream (d2) which corresponds to the data contained in the data field (D1) of the standardized data format (F1), and which is fed to an additional decoder (3) that detects a second data format (F2) possibly contained in the second data stream (d2) and passes the audio information of the second data format (F2) as a third data stream (d3) to the output decoder (5). Upon detection of the second data format (F2), the additional decoder (3) provides a detection signal (dz) to the control unit (4) which, in response to this detection signal (dz), sets the output decoder (5) to the processing of the first or third data stream (d1, d3).

Audio playback apparatus

A method utilizing a predetermined set of instructions in a wait routine reduces spurious signals caused by the power consumption of processors, particularly digital signal processors, which is dependent on the instruction code being executed. These spurious signals occur, for example, in processors performing cyclically recurring program routines which are initiated by interrupts where, during the run time of the routines, a first mean power consumption results, and where the run time of the program routines is shorter than the time between two successive interrupts. The cyclic changes in power consumption caused by this mode of operation of the digital signal processor are avoided by performing a wait routine between successive program routines which includes instructions selected to cause a mean power consumption of the processor during the wait routine to correspond to that during the program routines.
