Techniques are disclosed for sound source localization based on joint learning and evaluation of ITD and ILD representations that are measured in a complementary, correlation-based way using binaural time-frequency spectrums. According to one embodiment, from these measurements and learned representatives, which may, for example, be created by combinations of measurements from signals belonging to the same class, i.e., the same azimuthal location, probability distributions over frequency and class are computed. These probability distributions can be combined over cue and frequency using information-theoretic approaches to get a robust classification of the location and additionally a confidence measure for the quality of the classification result.

Process for setting controller parameters (PA, K Kn) of a state controller (SC) which, together with a plant (PL), forms a closed control circuit (C). The method according to the present invention is used for automatically configuring a fuzzy automatic-control device, in the form of generating transformation criteria. These transformation criteria preferably have change, stop, jump-back and reset rules for the individual states of the fuzzy automatic-control device that represent recognition probabilities. The method allows transformation criteria for configuring fuzzy automatic-control devices to be produced fully automatically by the arithmetic logic unit. Even if the pattern signals change frequently, the fuzzy automatic-control device can thus be reconfigured quickly, flexibly and without complications.

A method and a device for casting a strand from molten metal is presented. The molten metal is poured into a mold and then pulled out of the mold as a strand having a liquid core characterized by a solidified shell and a tapering liquid pool. The pouring level associated with the rate at which the liquid metal is poured into the mold is regulated by determining the pouring level and influencing the inflow of liquid metal into the mold by means of a controller whose control parameters are adapted on-line, by means of fuzzy techniques, to any change in the parameters of the controlled system corresponding to the pouring apparatus and the mold.
