A gyroscope package, system and method for use in a downhole tool suitable are provided. The gyroscope package, system and method includes a housing coupleable with a downhole tool, a gyroscope body within the housing, and an inductive-type MEMS gyroscope. The MEMS gyroscope includes a magnetic shield disposed around the inductive-type MEMS gyroscope to magnetically shield the inductive-type MEMS gyroscope.

A technique facilitates protection of a sensitive component, e.g. a well tool component, against shock and vibration. The sensitive component may be positioned in a mechanical chassis which is mounted in a housing. The mechanical chassis is mounted in the housing via a damper system which may comprise various vibration and shock absorbing components, such as a vibration damper, a transverse shock damper, and/or an axial damper. In drilling applications, the housing may be coupled into a drill string although the damper system may be used in other types of applications.

A method and system for azimuth measurements using one or more gyro sensors is disclosed. The method includes acquiring a first data from each of the gyro sensors with an input axis aligned to a first angular orientation and acquiring a second data from each of the gyro sensors with the input axis flipped to a second angular orientation opposite to the first angular orientation. An earth rate component at the first angular orientations is determined based on a difference between the first data and the second data to cancel out bias of each of the gyro sensors. The method may include acquiring a third data of the gyro sensor with the input axis aligned to the same angular orientation as the first angular orientation. An average of the first data and the third data may be used instead of the first data for determining the earth rate component.

A borehole seismic shuttle tool includes (a) a tool body having a cavity with an opening in the wall of the tool body; (b) an anchoring arm attached to the tool body and operable to anchor the tool body to the borehole wall; (c) a sensor package positioned in the cavity and mounted on resilient mounts which act to urge the sensor package in the direction of the opening, such that when the tool body is anchored to the borehole wall, the sensor package projects part way through the opening and is held against the borehole wall by the action of the resilient mounts. The tool is characterised in that when the tool body is not in contact with the borehole wall, peripheral portions of the sensor package is urged into contact with the tool body wall surrounding the opening.
