A method and apparatus is described for gradually transitioning a slider from operation over a patterned data zone to landing on a patterned CSS zone. The ratio of raised area width to recessed area width of a pattern in a transition zone and/or CSS zone may be varied across the radial dimension of the disk. By changing the ratio of raised area width to recessed area width of the pattern in the transition from slider operation over the data zone to landing in the CSS zone, it is possible to gradually change the height of the slider from flying to non-flying conditions.

A method and apparatus provide a user interface for control of a display device. A video signal is provided to a display device and a graphic image is displayed by the display device. The video signal may be provided to the display device by a host computer system coupled to the display device. Input to the host computer system is received by a user manipulating the graphic image via an input device. The host computer system responds to the input by communicating a command to the display device, the command for adjusting a parameter of the display device. The parameter may be selected from a group consisting of: brightness, contrast, horizontal orientation, horizontal size, vertical orientation, vertical size, tilt, pincushion, and color tint for the display. The command may be communicated via a data sequence sent to the display device by the host computer system. The data sequence may be encoded onto the video signal sent to the display device by the host computer system. The command may be communicated via a digital protocol which provides for bi-directional communication. The input device may be one or more of: a cursor control device coupled to the computer system; and a keyboard coupled to the computer system. The graphic image may include one or more of: a task window which provides a graphic menu; a graphic representation of the parameter, the graphic representation changing in response to said input by the user; a sliding scale; and a numeric value.

User interface for control of a display device

A computer system transliterates a text string from a first language to a second language using transliterator objects, each having a set of transliteration rules arranged in a preferred order. Each of the transliteration rules, in turn, has a test string and a replacement string and the transliterator object includes a method for comparing the test string in each of the transliteration rules to each of the characters in the text string to determine a subset of transliteration rules which exhibit a match. Using the preferred order, one of the subset of transliteration rules is selected and the replacement string of the selected transliteration rule is substituted for the test string in the text string.

Object-oriented rule-based text transliteration system

A method and system for assisting input of information. The method and system dynamically translates information being input, and allows user interaction with the translation process. The system is flexibly designed to allow easy use by application developers and users. The design allows a common input method to be used by multiple applications. Users may also customize the input methods to suit their own needs. The input methods support 'active' areas of text input, character based input, and phrase based input. The active area can be customized to appear a certain way. Dictionaries are also supported, including optional properties such as grammar and frequency. Dictionaries may also be chained.

Input methods framework

A method and system for providing a language-sensitive text search that performs text comparison of any Unicode strings. For any language an ordering is defined based on features of the language. Then, an interactive compare function is performed to determine the relationship of a pair of strings. The string is examined and a compare is performed one or more characters at a time based on a predefined character precedence.

Language-sensitive text searching system with modified Boyer-Moore

A computer implemented system and method utilizing rules instantiated in objects of an object-oriented operating system to transliterate text as it is input into a computer is disclosed. A number of transliterator objects are created in the storage of the computer, each one of the transliterator objects include transliteration rules arranged in the storage in a preferred order. Each of the transliteration rules contain a first language character string, a second language character string, and logic for comparing the first language character string in each of the transliteration rules to a text string that is entered into a computer to determine a subset of transliteration rules which match the entered text string. The entered text is displayed on a computer display as it is input into a computer and a particular one of the plurality of transliterator objects' logic is utilized in response to the preferred order for selecting one of the subset of transliteration rules and applying it to the first text string to display the second language character string of the selected transliteration rule on the display.
