A peristaltic pump assembly for moving a working fluid. The pump assembly includes an expandable fluid that changes in volume due to the presence of a magnetic and/or electric field. The pump assembly also includes a flexible member interposed between the working fluid and the expandable fluid. The pump assembly further includes a field generator operable to cause the expandable fluid to change in volume by applying the magnetic and/or electric field to the expandable fluid. This, in turn, moves the flexible member to increase the pressure of the working fluid to thereby move the working fluid.

A steering column restraining device for a vehicle, wherein the vehicle includes a steering column mounted to a steering column support bracket. The steering column restraining device comprises a first bracket mounted to the steering column support bracket and a second bracket mounted to a floorboard of the vehicle. The first bracket and the second bracket are interconnected using a strap extending therebetween. The device thereby minimizes upward translation of the steering column during impact, which maximizes the effectiveness of the airbag and further minimizes potential injury to the driver.

A valve for controlling a port in an air bag comprises a circular valve disk secured over the port. The disk has a circular mounting ring. Flexible valve elements extend radially inwardly from the ring. Each valve element is in the form of a wedge-shaped leaf with opposite side edges tapering radially inwardly to a point at the center of the ring. The valve is closed when the side edges of adjacent leaves are in contact. When the air bag deploys, the pressure of air in the bag flexes the leaves outwardly to open the valve.
