A method of attaching a substantially uniform distribution of particulates to individual exposed surfaces of a matrix of fibrous material. The method includes the following steps: 1) electrically charging a matrix of fibrous material having individual exposed surfaces to create a substantially uniform distribution of charged sites at the exposed surfaces; 2) applying particulates to the charged matrix of fibrous material so that at least some particulates adhere at the charged sites; and 3) attaching particulates adhering to the fibrous material at charged sites by substantially non-transient bonding.

Method of attaching a substantially uniform distribution of particulates to individual exposed surfaces of a substrate

Disclosed is a method for injection molding certain hydrodisintegratable materials which, when injection molded to form a desired object, acquire and maintain the desired shape. The method includes the steps of maintaining extrusion temperatures of the hydrodisintegratable material at or below about 250 degrees F. and maintaining the temperature of the mold at or below about 55 degrees F. In the presence of water, the molded object has the ability to rapidly disintegrate and disperse when subjected to standardized agitation testing.

Disclosed is a method of attaching a substantially uniform distribution of particulates to individual exposed surfaces of a matrix of fibrous material. The method includes the following steps: 1) electrically charging a matrix of fibrous material having individual exposed surfaces to create a substantially uniform distribution of charged sites at the exposed surfaces; 2) applying particulates to the charged matrix of fibrous material so that at least some particulates adhere at the charged sites; and 3) attaching particulates adhering to the fibrous material at charged sites by substantially non-transient bonding. Also disclosed is a fibrous composite structure composed of a matrix of fibrous material having individual exposed surfaces; and a relatively uniform distribution of particulate material attached to individual exposed surfaces of the fibrous material by substantially non-transient bonding.

The present invention is directed toward a multilayer film which includes a first surface layer and a second surface layer. The first surface layer is composed of materials which disintegrate when subjected to conditions present in conventional sewage systems. The second surface layer is formed from a material which is essentially inert to water, urine and other bodily fluids. Typically, the second surface layer is an extremely thin coating which provides a waterproofing effect. The multilayer film may be utilized as an outer cover in a wide variety of products such as, for example, disposable diapers and feminine care products such as sanitary napkins. In one desirable embodiment the multilayer film includes only these two layers so that the material may be flushed down a conventional toilet without clogging the sewage system because the first surface layer rapidly disintegrates in water leaving only the thin, gossamer second surface layer which can pass through the sewage system without adversely affecting it.

Multilayer hydrodisintegratable film

Disclosed is a self-adhesive nonwoven elastic composite material composed of at least one elastic composite material; and a coating of a self-adhesive material on at least a portion of at least one exterior surface of the elastic composite material so that the material is capable of being compressed in the Z-direction at least about 45 percent at a pressure of about 3 psi to a thickness of not less than about 0.035 inch. The elastic composite material may contain an elastomeric nonwoven fibrous web joined to at least one relatively nonelastic gatherable material at spaced-apart locations so that the gatherable material is gathered between the spaced-apart locations. Such an elastic composite material can be coated with a self-adhesive material on at least a portion of at least one exterior surface of the elastic composite material so that the peel strength of the self-adhesive material is less than the peel strength of the layers of the elastic composite material. Also disclosed is a self-adhesive product in the form of a wrap or bandage for use in human or veterinary medicine.

Self-adhesive nonwoven elastic compressible composite material

Disclosed is a hydrodisintegratable material which, when injection molded into an object, acquires and maintains the desired shape without becoming brittle. Additionally, in the presence of water, the molded object has the ability to rapidly disintegrate and disperse when subjected to standardized agitation testing. The moldable material typically includes: (1) from about 7.5 to about 85 weight percent of at least one water dispersible polymer; (2) from about 7.5 to about 85 weight percent of at least one xerogellant; and (3) at least one volatile material, where the weight percentage of all volatile materials present in the material is within a range which is defined, at its lower end, by the weight percentage of all volatile materials which assures that the material will not become brittle upon being molded and is defined, at its upper end, by the highest weight percentage of all volatile materials which results in the material satisfactorily conforming to the desired physical configuration upon being molded. A process for forming such an object is disclosed.
