A system generates a secure barcode by: identifying a primary pattern for a two-dimensional barcode to be printed on a substrate, wherein the primary pattern comprises of a set of dark cells and a set of light cells; identifying a two-dimensional micro-shape, wherein the micro-shape has a size that is no larger than a size of each cell of the two-dimensional barcode; generating a secondary pattern comprising a plurality of the micro-shapes; and superimposing the secondary pattern with the primary pattern for the two-dimensional barcode to yield a secure barcode. The resulting two-dimensional barcode includes a primary pattern comprising a set of dark cells and a set of light cells, where the sets represent encoded data, along with a secondary pattern of micro-shapes that are superimposed with the primary pattern.

A method and system for creating guilloch&#xe9; base pattern with two-dimensional periodicity in a plurality of replicate patterns is shown wherein the creating can be assessed in real-time for pattern acceptability by a user. A base pattern is set on an imaging device in vector space relative to a set of predetermined pattern nodes. The base pattern is modulated via a user interface by adjusting positions of the pattern known for selectively controlling curve shapes of the pattern. A guilloch&#xe9; mark is illustrated by display on the imaging device of the adjusted base pattern and a compilation of associated replicate patterns for user assessment of the mark.

A method and system is provided providing a variable data guilloch&#xe9; pattern comprised of variable data differential line pattern fonts comprising decodable template symbols which are capable of being selectively assembled into a predetermined variable data code. The differential line pattern fonts are further spatially modulated for imposition of a second data channel on a printed document. The representation can be decoded with a digital scanner capable of identifying the embedded patterns and spatially modulated transform function and communicate it to a user for verifying a document containing the code.

Embedding information using modulated periodic line patterns

A system/method of color match assessment for electronic documents includes receiving digital data defining a composite electronic document including a raster image object having an edge and a color graphics object bordering the edge of the raster image object. The pixel color values defining the edge of the raster image object are processed to estimate a local color variance of the pixel color values. The local color variance is used to determine if the edge can be color matched to the bordering color graphics object. If the edge can be color matched, a match color for the edge is derived. The match color is associated with the digital data defining the electronic document so that a downstream object color match system can use the match color as needed.

A method and system is provided for generating a variable data differential line pattern font comprising forming a periodic line pattern suitable for tessellation disposition within a printed document and selectively distorting a portion of the periodic line pattern in a predetermined manner wherein the distorting comprises generating a distinguishable font corresponding to the distorting. A plurality of different distinguishable fonts are formed by a corresponding plurality of distorted line patterns, respectively.

Variable data periodic line patterns for composing a font system

A show-through reduction method is disclosed. The method is designed to deal with both light and severe show-through. The method focuses mostly on text documents, with characters possibly appearing in multiple gray levels, although the method can also be extended to color documents. As in the prior art, the front and back pages are processed in pairs. However, no perfect page alignment is assumed here, since we are dealing with real images. Instead, a front and back registration is performed as the first step before the pages are further analyzed. In this method, we are aligning the front page content with its show-through appearing in the back side, and the back page content with its show-through appearing in the front side. Once the two sides are aligned, masks are generated for both sides to differentiate severe show-through and light color content regions. Finally, different TRCs are applied to different regions. The show-through is reduced and the page contents are retained.

Font printing system having embedded security information comprising variable data periodic line patterns

The present invention is directed to a method and apparatus for the improved characterization of an image scanner or similar image input terminal so as to enable the device to be employed in the measurement and analysis of color images. The invention uses a family of input device characterization targets, each varying in primary colorants and at a fixed level of black (K) colorant. A corresponding family of input device characterizations is derived, one for each level of K, and the final transformation is prepared such that the characterization includes K as an additional input&#x2014;thereby improving the characterization and accuracy of the input device.

Method for scanner characterization for color measurement of printed media having four or more colorants

In a printer which produces images as a function of the combination of cyan (C), magenta (M), yellow (Y) and black (K) colorants on an output color print, responsive to device independent colorimetric description of an image, there is provided a method of calibrating the response of the printer to an image described in terms of colorimetric values, including the steps of first, gray balancing or linearizing colorant signals; secondly, adding black to an ideal device dependent description of a color image in accordance with a predetermined black addition process, and thirdly, providing a color correction transformation process, where the color correction transformation is accomplished via a method of interpolating printer responses from a look-up table indexing colorimetric descriptions of measured real responses, which take into account subsequent black addition and signal linearization.

Color printer calibration architecture

A method of calibrating the response of the printer to an image described in terms of colorimetric values, including the steps of: a) setting printer parameters; b) deriving a printer response characteristic by printing a calibration test from device dependent printer signals stored in a device memory, the calibration image including a plurality of color patches, some of which may be repeated at a plurality of locations on the test image at spatially disparate locations selected to keep local printer non-uniformities from affecting both locations; c) measuring printer response characteristics in device independent terms; d) generating a memory mapping of device independent colors to printer responses for subsequent use in printing images defined in device independent terms. The calibration target includes a large number of patches generated from combinations of printer colorants, and may repeat some of those patches either on the same sheet or on a plurality of sheets at positions on the sheet which are spatially distinct.
