The present invention relates to a product obtained from gastropod spawn, to be used to prepare dermatological, cosmetic or cosmeceutical compositions designed for skin care; said product has the capacity to activate and mobilize skin stem cells, as well as prevent the loss thereof that takes place as a consequence of chronological and premature ageing. The present invention also relates to the process followed in order to obtain said product.

Dermatological, cosmetic or cosmeceutical compositions intended for skin treatment

The composition comprises of a component A selected from a hydroxylated derivative of benzoic acid or of cinamic acid, their esters, amides or salts, a glycoside of a hexose, and their mixtures; and a component B selected from quinic acid, shikimic acid, their alkaline metal or alkaline earth salts, their methyl esters, and mixtures of the same. This composition is suitable for protecting the skin against ultraviolet radiation coming from the sun or artificial sources, such as those used in phototherapy units and in sun tanning rooms. For application in the field of dermatology and nutrition, and, in particular, in the photoprotection of the skin and mucosa, photo-ageing and photocarcinogenesis, including protection of the immune system associated with the skin.

A method for producing a composition having an inhibiting effect on production of tumor necrosis factor (TNF), and a method for inhibiting the production of TNF in vivo by administering the composition is provided. A process for obtaining polymers with antiviral activity is disclosed. Molecules carrying carbonyl groups and hydroxyl groups in the .alpha. position relative to the carbonyl, and molecules carrying amino and sulfonated groups, react in water or in mixtures of water with water-miscible solvents. The reaction takes place under specific conditions of temperature, time and pH. The first reacting molecule may be a monosaccharide whereas the second reacting molecule may comprise aliphatic aminosulfates. Upon completion of the reaction the polymeric material is purified by conventional processes such that the polymeric material has a molecular weight between 1,500 and 100,000. The polymeric material has antiviral activity, either lacks or has very low toxicity and anticoagulant activity, and is thus suitable for pharmaceutical preparations for use in topical or systemic antiviral therapy in humans or animals.
