An illumination arrangement for a projection system is proposed including a light source device and a light collecting, integrating and redirecting device. The light source device comprises at least one solid state light source device. The light collecting, integrating and redirecting device comprises at least one light integrating device, which is adapted to directly receive and to integrate at least a part of primary illumination light generated by and emitted from at least one associated of at least one sold state light source device.

Illumination arrangement for a projection system

An illumination arrangement () for a projection system is proposed comprising a light source device () and a light collecting, integrating and redirecting device (). The light source device () comprises at least one solid state light source device (). The light collecting, integrating and redirecting device () comprises at least one light integrating device (), which is adapted to directly receive and to integrate at least a part of primary illumination light (L) generated by and emitted from at least one associated of at least one solid state light source device ().

An optical device for backlighting a liquid crystal display. The optical device has an optical element. The optical element includes a material body and at least one recess. The recess is formed in the material body and is configured to determine the light distribution of light to be directed towards the liquid crystal display.

Spatial light modulator display

An image generation unit () is proposed comprising a first, a second, and a third light source unit (S, S, S) which are adapted in order to generate an emit respective first, second, and third primary illumination light components (Lr, Lg, Lb). An image generation and light re-directing arrangement (IGR) is provided which is adapted in order to generate first, second and third partial images (Ir, Ig, Ib) for an image (I) to be displayed and in order to generate first, second, and third projection light components (Lpr, Lpg, Lpb) as light of said first, second, and third partial images (Ir, Ig, Ib), respectively and in order to emit said projection light components (Lpr, Lpg, Lpb) as light of said first, second, and third partial images (Ir, Ig, Ib), respectively into an essentially common output direction (XO), wherein said first, second and third light source units (S, S, S) are arranged in order to emit said first, second and third primary illumination light components (L, L, L) into an essentially common input direction (XI).

Image generation unit

It is proposed to provide in an illumination unit () a light combining section () being adapted for receiving and combining first and second primary illumination light (L, L) or a derivative thereof and a light collecting, integrating and redirecting section () being adapted for receiving, collecting, integrating and redirecting first and second primary illumination light (L, L) or a derivative thereof, wherein said light combining section () and said light collecting, integrating and redirecting section () are at least partly arranged in a spatially mingled manner with respect to each other. Thereby from said first and second primary illumination light (L, L) collected, integrated and redirected combined primary illumination light (CL) can be obtained and emitted as secondary illumination light (L) having controlled spectral properties and an essentially uniformized spatial intensity distribution.
