A physiological characteristic sensor system includes a physiological characteristic sensor. The physiological characteristic sensor includes a housing having a first housing portion coupled to a second housing portion, and an antenna coupled to the first housing portion. The physiological characteristic sensor system includes a sensor inserter configured to be coupled to the physiological characteristic sensor. The sensor inserter includes a sensor retainer, and the sensor retainer is configured to couple to the second housing portion in a second state to couple the physiological characteristic sensor to the sensor inserter.

Physiological characteristic sensor system

A method and apparatus for a connection interface between a reservoir or syringe, infusion set tubing, and an infusion pump is provided. The reservoir, a base and a cap are connected to form an integrated unit that is capable of being inserted and secured in an infusion pump housing. The cap and the infusion pump are each provided with at least one sensor or at least one detectable feature, arranged to interact with at least one corresponding detectable feature or sensor on the other of the cap and infusion pump device, to detect one or more of the presence, position or other characteristic of the cap when the cap is aligned or coupled with the infusion pump housing. The detectable feature and sensor may be magnetic, RF, mechanical, optical or any combination.

Smart connection interface

Systems for managing pressure in a fluid reservoir chamber of a fluid infusion device are provided. For example, a fluid infusion device comprises a housing having a reservoir chamber that receives a fluid reservoir and a pump chamber. The fluid infusion device also includes a drive system contained within the pump chamber, and the drive system includes a slide that is movable relative to the fluid reservoir. The slide includes a proximal slide end that cooperates with a portion of the fluid reservoir to dispense fluid, and the proximal slide end has a projection. The fluid infusion device includes a pressure management system defined in the projection of the slide. The pressure management system includes at least one bore defined through the projection. The at least one bore is spaced a distance apart from a perimeter of the projection to vent air from the reservoir chamber into the pump chamber.

Systems for managing reservoir chamber pressure

A fluid infusion device and related operating methods are presented here. An exemplary embodiment of the device includes a drive motor assembly, a force sensor associated with the drive motor assembly, and a reservoir cavity that accommodates fluid reservoirs. An exemplary operating method for the device obtains force measurements for a reservoir seating action of the drive motor assembly, where the force measurements indicate measures of force imparted to the force sensor during the reservoir seating action. The method continues by determining that a vent in the reservoir cavity is blocked, based on an analysis of the force measurements, and by initiating corrective action for the fluid infusion device in response to determining that the vent in the reservoir cavity is blocked.

Detecting blockage of a reservoir cavity during a seating operation of a fluid infusion device

Apparatus are provided for infusion devices and related operating methods. An exemplary device includes a sensing arrangement to provide an output indicative of a characteristic that is influenced by operation of the device, and a control module that is coupled to the sensing arrangement to apply a matched filter corresponding to a condition associated with the operation of the device to the output of the sensing arrangement and detect that condition based on the filtered output. In one example, the device includes a motor coupled to a plunger of a reservoir and operable to displace the plunger, wherein the characteristic is a force opposing displacement of the plunger and the control module detects an occlusion condition in a fluid path from the reservoir based on filtered force measurements.

Detecting conditions associated with medical device operations using matched filters

A fluid infusion device including a housing that receives a sealed fluid reservoir is presented here. The fluid infusion device includes a drive motor assembly, an actuation mechanism, a force sensor, and at least one processor in the housing. The processor detects insertion of the fluid reservoir and incrementally rewinds the drive motor assembly to achieve an equilibrium state. The processor advances the drive motor assembly and obtains at least one measure of force using the force sensor until the at least one measure of force indicates that the fluid reservoir has reached an initial seated state. The processor performs a stabilizing cycle with the drive motor assembly. The processor advances the drive motor assembly and obtains at least one subsequent measure of force using the force sensor until the at least one subsequent measure of force indicates that the fluid reservoir has reached a subsequent sealed state.

Fluid reservoir seating procedure for a fluid infusion device

An embodiment of a fluid infusion device includes a fluid pump mechanism having a rotor and a stator. The rotor includes a reference surface and a cam element rising from the reference surface, and the stator includes a cam element having a stator cam surface. The cam elements cooperate to axially displace the rotor as a function of angular position of the rotor. A biasing element provides force to urge the cam elements together. A drive motor actuates the rotor to pump medication fluid from a fluid cartridge module to a body, via a subcutaneous conduit. A detection circuit processes axial and angular position data of the rotor, and determines that an upstream occlusion has occurred based on detectable characteristics of the axial and angular position data.

Occlusion detection techniques for a fluid infusion device having a rotary pump mechanism and rotor position sensors

A fluid infusion device includes a pump mechanism having a rotor and a stator. The rotor includes a reference surface and a cam element rising from the reference surface. The stator includes a cam element with a stator cam surface. The cam elements cooperate to axially displace the rotor as it rotates. A drive motor is coupled to actuate the rotor to pump medication fluid from a fluid cartridge module to a body, via a subcutaneous conduit. A sensor contact element resides on the reference surface in an area unoccupied by the rotor cam element. A sensing element terminates at the stator cam surface, and cooperates with a detection circuit to detect when the stator cam surface contacts the sensor contact element. The circuit monitors a detection signal obtained from the sensing element to determine an operating condition of the pump mechanism.
