The present invention provides peptides of general formula (I) and salts thereof, wherein: Rand R, taken together, form a birradical linker; and R' is hydrogen; or, alternatively, Ris selected from hydrogen, &#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;CH&#x2014;NH&#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;(C-C)alkyl, and &#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;(C-C)alkyl; one of Rand R&#x2032; is hydrogen and the other is selected from &#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)NRR, and &#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)OH; and Rand Rare same or different and are selected from hydrogen and (C-C)alkyl. These peptides are highly efficient in binding and inhibiting FoxP3, being efficient in inhibiting and blocking Treg cell functionality, which make them useful in the treatment of cancer. The present invention also provides constructs comprising the peptide of formula (I) as well as combinations comprising the peptide of formula (I), the construct or both.

The invention relates to peptides of general formula (I), wherein X is absent or X is present and is Xor X-X, wherein Xand X, independently from one another, represent an amino acid; their functional variants and fragments, and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts, having the capacity to bind to scurfin and inhibit its biological activity, therefore they regulate or block the activity of regulatory T (Treg) lymphocytes. They are applicable in the treatment of infectious and neoplastic diseases.

Use of cardiotrophin in liver diseases. The invention describes the increased expression of cardiotrophin (CT-1) during the process of hepatic regeneration coinciding with maximum proliferation of hepatocytes and the role of CT-1 as a stimulator of hepatic regeneration. Furthermore, it describes the hepatoprotective role of CT-1 in various models of acute liver damage. The importance of using CT-1 in the manufacture of compositions for use in the treatment of hepatopathies is demonstrated. The invention describes such use in various forms and methods, including the recombinant protein and the use of the gene sequences that code for CT-1.

Use of cardiotrophin in liver diseases

Antagonistic synthetic peptides, obtained from TGF&#x3b2;1 or from its receptors in the organism, that can be used in the manufacture, both on their own, as well as the gene sequences that encode them and the recombinant systems that express them, in the manufacture of compositions for use in the treatment of liver diseases and more concretely in cases of fibrosis. The said compositions can optionally include mimotopes of the said active peptides.
