Wireless power transfer devices may be configured to negotiate with each other to operate. For example, a wireless power standard may provide for various levels of power delivery, various frequencies for power transfer, various operating voltages, and so forth. There may be instances in which it is desirable to provide wireless power transfer devices (both PTx and PRx) that are capable of enhanced performance when paired with a compatible device. For example, devices can be configured to operate at higher or more granular power levels, different frequencies, and so forth.

Enhanced wireless power transfer

A wireless power transmission system comprising a wireless power transmitting device and a wireless power receiving device. The wireless power receiving device is configured to enter a cloak state when a temporary pause in power transfer is desired. The wireless power receiving device may allow or deny a communication data stream with the wireless power transmitting device during the cloak state. The wireless power receiving device may request a hot start power transfer phase with the wireless power transmitting device after the cloak state. The wireless power transmitting device may or revert (reset) to a default operating state in the event that a control error packet is received during the cloak state.

Wireless power transfer system, methods or devices

A wireless power system may have a wireless power transmitting device and a wireless power receiving device. The wireless power transmitting device may include a coil and wireless power transmitting circuitry coupled to the coil. The wireless power receiving device may include a coil that is configured to receive wireless power signals from the wireless power transmitting device and rectifier circuitry that is configured to convert the wireless power signals to direct current power. The wireless power transmitting device and the wireless power receiving device may exchange data packets using in-band communication in order to transfer various types of data. For increased flexibility of data transmission, multiple data streams may be used concurrently when conveying data between the power receiving device and power transmitting device. Each data packet may include a stream header that identifies a corresponding data stream. Different types of data may be transmitted with each data stream.

Wireless power systems with concurrently active data streams

The disclosed embodiments provide a system that operates switched-mode power supplies, such as flyback converters. The power supplies may comprise isolated or non-isolated power converters. During operation, the system senses an on-time of a primary switch in the power converter. Upon detecting that the on-time does not exceed an on-time threshold within a first pre-specified period that spans one or more switching cycles, the system extends the on-time during a subsequent switching cycle to at least meet the on-time threshold. The system may then measure the voltage on one or more reference windings of the power converter during the on-time of the subsequent switching cycle, wherein the reference winding may comprise, e.g., an auxiliary winding of the primary winding of the power converter or a secondary winding of the power converter (e.g., in the case of isolated power converters utilizing a transformer).

Measuring input voltages from reference windings of power converters with limited on-time

The disclosed embodiments provide a system that operates a flyback converter. During activation of a synchronous rectifier (SR) controller on a secondary side of the power converter, the system temporarily disables driving of a gate of a metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) by the SR controller to enable synchronization of the SR controller to a switching frequency on a primary side of the power converter. After driving of the gate of the MOSFET by the SR controller has been disabled for a pre-specified period, the system enables driving of the gate of the MOSFET by the SR controller.

Shoot-through prevention in switched-mode power supplies

In accordance with an embodiment, a power supply may include a filter stage coupled to an input terminal of a discharge circuit and a supply capacitor coupled to an output terminal of the discharge circuit. In accordance with another embodiment, a method for discharging at least one capacitor includes discharging the at least one capacitor in response to a signal at the input terminal of the discharge circuit being different from a reference signal.

In one embodiment, a multi-function signal sensor is configured to receive a signal having a plurality of states and to offset the input signal by a first amount for values of the input signal that are greater than a first value.
