A coated article comprises an article, and one or more amide based coatings on an outer surface of the proppant particle, the amide based coating include the reaction product of an isocyanate component that includes at least one isocyanate and a carboxylic acid component that includes one or more poly-carboxylic acids.

Amide based coating

Coated proppant particles are prepared by coating the particles with at least one polyisocyanate, and at least one urethane catalyst, and starch is present during at least part of the curing step. The starch becomes incorporated into in at least a portion of the cured coating. The coating cures rapidly at moderate temperatures, and bonds to itself well under conditions of heat and pressure as are experienced by the particles in subterranean formations.

Coated proppants

A continuous process for forming a coated proppant, said process comprising the steps of: (a) washing particles, (b) drying the particles at a first predetermined temperature, (c) cooling the particles, (d) feeding the cooled particles with a second predetermined temperature lower than the first predetermined temperature to an inlet of a combined continuous mixer and conveyor unit, (e) feeding a coating composition into the combined continuous mixer and conveyor unit, (f) mixing and simultaneously conveying the particles and the coating composition for a predetermined time, (g) curing the coating composition by transfer of heat from the particles, (h) discharging the coated particles from an outlet of the combined continuous mixer and conveyor unit, wherein said process does not comprise a step of heating the particles after the drying.

In line, continuous proppant coating method

Provided are proppants for use in hydraulic fracturing operations. The proppants comprise particles having coatings disposed on them as described herein. The proppants exhibit reduced dust generation, for instance during transloading, conveying and/or offloading of the proppant at a wellsite and/or at intermediate shipping transload points.

Proppants with improved dust control

A coated article, such as a proppant, includes a base substrate and one or more polyurethane based coatings on an outer surface of the base substrate. The one or more polyurethane based coatings including the reaction product of an isocyanate component that has at least one isocyanate and an isocyanate-reactive component that has one or more simple polyols and one or more polyether monols at a ratio from 1:18 to 18:1. An isocyanate index is greater than 0.2 and less than 1.0.

A coated proppant includes a solid core proppant particle, a first resin coating, and a second coating on the first resin coating. The second coating includes the reaction product of one or more curatives and one or more preformed aliphatic or cycloaliphatic based isocyanurate tri-isocyanates, derived from aliphatic diisocyanates, cycloaliphatic diisocyanates, or a combination of aliphatic and cycloaliphatic diisocyanates.

A method for exposing a substrate to water under superatmospheric pressure at a temperature of at least 70&#xb0; C. includes (a) applying a reaction mixture to a substrate, which reaction mixture has an isocyanate index of at least 10 and includes an aromatic polyisocyanate component, a polyol component having a polyol with a hydroxyl equivalent weight of at least 500, and a catalyst component having an isocyanate trimerization catalyst, and at least partially curing the reaction mixture to form a polyisocyanurate or polyurethane-isocyanurate polymer having a glass transition temperature of at least 80&#xb0; C., and (b) exposing the substrate and the polyisocyanurate or polyurethane-isocyanurate polymer to water under superatmospheric pressure at a temperature of at least 70&#xb0; C.

Process for making urethane-isocyanurates

Embodiments relate to coated proppants, a method of making the coated proppants, and a method to use coated proppants in fracturing subterranean formations around oil and gas wells to improve oil recovery. The proppants are coated with an oil well treatment agent, specifically, a wax inhibitor and/or a pour point depressant composition.

Solid, non-melting polyurethanes having a glass transition temperature of at least 40&#xb0; C. and free isocyanate groups are self-bonding materials that are useful in a variety of adhesive and molding operations. Under conditions of heat and moisture, these polyurethanes will self-bond. The polyurethanes can be used as adhesive coatings, which are solid and non-tacky and thus can be transported and stored easily under ambient conditions. These polyurethane adhesives are especially useful in applications in which, due to the location and/or orientation of the substrates, liquid or melting materials cannot be applied easily or will run off the substrates.

Solid, self-bondable isocyanate-containing organic polymers and methods for using same

Polyisocyanurate or polyurethane-isocyanurate polymers are made by curing an aromatic polyisocyanate or a mixture of at least one aromatic polyisocyanate and at least one polyol having a hydroxyl equivalent weight of up to 200 in which the isocyanate index is at least 2.00, in the presence of at least one isocyanate trimerization catalyst, to form a polyisocyanurate or polyurethane-isocyanurate polymer having a glass transition temperature of at least 100&#xb0; C., and then exposing the polyisocyanurate or polyurethane-isocyanurate polymer formed step a) to water under superatmospheric pressure at a temperature of at least 70&#xb0; C.

Process for making urethane-isocyanates

Embodiments of the invention provide for a polycarbonate polyol including the reaction product of at least one polyol composition and a carbonate. The polycarbonate is one of an amorphous liquid and an amorphous solid at room temperature. The polyol composition includes at least one of a mixture of 1,3-cyclohexanedimethanol and 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol in a weight ratio from about 60:40 to about 5:95 and a polyol derived from a natural oil fatty acid or natural oil fatty acid methyl ester.

Polycarbonate polyols and polyurethanes made therefrom

Thermoset elastomer compositions are disclosed. Such elastomers are the reaction product of (a) an ambient temperature liquid epoxy-terminated prepolymer formed by reacting a polyoxyalkyleneamine having a molecular weight of from 3000 to 20,000 with an excess of epoxide, wherein the polyoxyalkyleneamine has at least 3 active hydrogen atoms and (b) a curing agent comprising at least one amine or polyamine having an equivalent weight of less than 200 and having 2 to 5 active hydrogen atoms. Such elastomers can be used in applications such as for sealants, adhesives, coatings, gaskets, jointing and cast elastomers.

Elastomeric epoxy materials and the use thereof

The invention provides an insulation material comprising an epoxy-terminated prepolymer and an amine curing agent. The reaction production of the epoxy-terminated prepolymer and amine curing agent provides for an elastomer that combines the processing and mechanical properties of polyurethane elastomers with improved thermal-hydrolytic stability. The insulation material is particularly useful as thermal insulation and coating for subsea oil and gas applications.
