A slitting machine () includes a laminated film unwinding apparatus (), a release liner recovery apparatus (), a cutting apparatus (), and a plurality of polymer substrate strip rewinding apparatuses (). The laminated film unwinding apparatus () is operable to unwind a roll of laminated film () comprising at least a polymer substrate () and a release liner (). According to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, a coated film may be made by a process that may include applying an uncured polyurethane precursor between a polyolefin film and a release liner such that a first surface of the release liner is in contact with the uncured polyurethane precursor, curing the uncured polyurethane precursor to form a cured polyurethane layer positioned between the polyolefin film and the release liner, and removing the release liner to form the coated film comprising the polyolefin film and the cured polyurethane layer. The first surface of the release liner may have an optical finish. The curing may impart an optical finish to the cured polyurethane layer substantially similar to the optical finish of the first surface of the release liner.

A film structure including: (a) at least one functionalized film layer, wherein the at least one film layer comprises a polar-reactive group polyolefin layer used as an internal layer in the film structure; and (b) a lamination adhesive composition present on, and in contact with, a least a portion of a surface of the internal layer; wherein the green tack value of the adhesive composition is greater than 0.772 Newtons/centimeter; a laminate including the above film structure bonded to a substrate layer; a process for producing the film structure; a process for producing the laminate; and a laminated article made from the above laminate.

Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to printing systems and methods that may include an ink composition including electrically charged ink particles dispersed in a hydrocarbon liquid and a multilayer film. The multilayer film may include a polymeric core layer; and one or more printing layers adjacent to the polymeric core layer. The one or more printing layers may include at least 50 wt. % of an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer having acid and acrylate functional groups. The ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer having acid and acrylate functional groups may include from 0.5 wt. % to 4 wt. % methacrylic or acrylic acid; from 0.5 wt. % to 4 wt. % acrylate, from 7 wt. % to 40 wt. % vinyl acetate; and the balance ethylene, based on the total weight of the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer having acid and acrylate functional groups.

Printing systems and methods including multilayer films

A two-component solventless polyurethane adhesive composition including (A) at least one isocyanate component and (B) at least one polyol component. The isocyanate component (A) comprises an isocyanate prepolymer that is the reaction product of (Ai) a polyisocyanate and (Aii) an isocyanate-reactive component; wherein the isocyanate-reactive component comprises (Aiia) at least one polyol having a functionality greater than two, (Aiib) at least one aromatic polyester polyol having a functionality of greater than two, and (Aiic) at least one hydrophobic polyol. The polyol component (B) comprises (Bi) at least one polyether polyol having a functionality greater than two, (Bii) at least one aromatic polyester polyol transesterified with a natural oil, and (Biii) at least one phosphate ester polyol. A method for forming a laminate is also disclosed, the method comprising the steps of: (I) mixing the above reactants (components (A) and (B)) to form a solventless adhesive composition, (II) applying a layer of the solventless adhesive composition to a surface of a first substrate, (III) bringing the layer of the solventless adhesive composition on the first substrate into contact with a surface of a second substrate to form a laminate, and (IV) curing the solventless adhesive composition. A laminate comprising the above solventless adhesive composition is also disclosed.

Adhesive composition

The present invention provides coated films and packages formed from such films. In one aspect, a coated film comprises (a) a multilayer polymeric film having opposing facial surfaces, wherein a first facial surface has a root mean square surface roughness of at least 80 nm when measured using image analysis with an atomic force microscope and wherein a second facial surface has a root mean square surface roughness of less than 80 nm when measured using image analysis with an atomic force microscope; and (b) a coating on at least a portion of the first facial surface, wherein the coating comprises polyurethane, wherein the film comprises at least one of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, or polyamide, and wherein the coated film has a Zebedee clarity of at least 2% when measured according to ASTM D1746/15 in the coated portion of the first facial surface.

The present invention provides coated films and packages formed from such films. In one aspect, a coated film comprises (a) a film comprising (i) a first layer as described herein; (ii) a second layer as described herein; and (iii) at least one inner layer between the first layer and the second layer as described herein; and (b) a coating on an outer surface of the second layer of the film comprising polyurethane.
