Technologies are generally described for activation of actuators based on sensed user characteristics, such as orientation. In some examples, an access control system may be configured to activate an actuator upon determining that an activation device is both in proximity to and has a similar orientation to the actuator. The access control system may be configured to determine orientation similarity by determining an orientation associated with the activation device, determining an orientation associated with the actuator, and comparing a difference between the two orientations to an activation threshold. The actuator may be associated with an entryway such as a building doorway, a room doorway, or a vehicle door, or may be associated with a container such as a safe or vehicle trunk.

Technologies are generally described for identifying whether a propagation path between a mobile device and an access point is line-of-sight. In some examples, a method performed under control of a mobile device may include receiving, from an access point, a first signal transmitted at a first frequency band; receiving, from the access point, a second signal transmitted at a second frequency band; measuring a difference value between propagation properties of the first signal and the second signal; and identifying whether a propagation path between the mobile device and the access point is line-of-sight or non-line-of-sight based at least in part on the difference value.

Technologies are generally described for selectively charging a capacitor coupled to a memory. Example electronic devices described herein may include a memory; a capacitor coupled to the memory; a power supply configured to supply power at least to the capacitor; a switch coupled between the power supply and the capacitor; and a switch controller coupled to the switch and configured to: determine whether the electronic device is in a safety mode or in a normal mode, and control an operation of the switch, based on the determination. So, the supply of the power from the power supply to the capacitor is selectively controlled.

Technologies generally described herein relate to connection of a mobile device to a base station in a wireless communication system. Example mobile devices may include a receiver, a data communication module, a switch module, and a signal consolidator. The receiver may be configured to receive, from a base station through a cellular band, a first control signal including control information regarding the base station. The data communication module may be configured to communicate with the base station through a non-cellular band. The switch module may be coupled to the receiver and to the data communication module, and configured to determine that a power level of the first control signal is higher than a first threshold value and activate the data communication module in response to the determination. The data communication module may be further configured to receive a second control signal including the control information from the base station through the non-cellular band. The signal consolidator may be coupled to the receiver and the data communication module, and configured to obtain the control information regarding the base station from at least one of the received first control signal or the received second control signal.

Technologies are generally described for detecting proximity of a client device to a base station in a wireless communication system. Example base station may include a proximity detector and an operation mode controller. The proximity detector may analyze a property of a signal transmitted by a client device to detect an envelope of the signal including a buzz-type waveform. If the envelope of the signal is determined to include a buzz-type waveform, the client device is determined to be within communication range of the base station. Further, the operation mode controller may convert a current operation mode of the base station to a particular operation mode that enables the base station to support communication by the client device. In some embodiments, the buzz-type waveform may be a waveform of an uplink control signal that is transmitted by the client device when it is not actively engaged in communication.

Technologies are generally described for phase measuring profilometry (PMP) using structured light patterns based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). In some examples, a composite structured light pattern generated using OFDM may be used to illuminate a surface of interest. The surface may reflect a phase-distorted version of the structured light pattern, and the phase-distorted structured light pattern may be processed to recover image and/or height information about the surface. In some embodiments, fast Fourier transform schemes may be used to generate the composite structured light pattern and process the phase-distorted structured light pattern.

A method for setting connection between an access point and a station is provided. A method includes transmitting, by a station management entity, to a MAC layer management entity included in the station, information about a reception condition for a communication setup message transmitted by the access point and information about a reporting timing of the communication setup message by the MAC layer management entity to the station management entity when the MAC layer management entity receives the communication setup message, and adjusting, by the MAC layer management entity, a transmission timing of the communication setup message to the station management entity according to information about a connection priority requirement included in the communication setup message received by the MAC layer management entity from the access point, and the information about the reporting timing.

Technologies are generally described for generating pilot signal patterns in a base station, such as a small-cell base station, or a self-organizing network (SON) in a mobile communication system. Example devices/systems described herein may include one or more of a storage unit, a control unit and/or a communication unit in a base station. The storage unit may be configured to store a pilot signal pattern corresponding to a power variation between a first power level and a second power level. The control unit may be coupled to the storage unit and configured to generate a pilot signal in accordance with the stored pilot signal pattern. Further, the communication unit may be coupled to the control unit and configured to transmit the generated pilot signal such that any nearby mobile stations (or user equipment) can use the signal to perform cell selection or re-selection.

Technologies generally described herein relate to connection of a mobile device to an access point in a wireless communication system. Example mobile devices may include a receiver, a decoder and a data communication module. The receiver may be configured to receive a downlink synchronization signal from an access point through a cellular band. In some embodiments, the downlink synchronization signal is synchronized based on a signal from a base station. The decoder may be coupled to the receiver and configured to decode the received downlink synchronization signal to obtain information regarding the access point. The data communication module may be coupled to the decoder and configured to connect to the access point based, at least in part, on the obtained information regarding the access point.

A method and a device for setting a multi-band based link in a wireless LAN system are disclosed. The method for configuring a wireless link comprises the steps of: receiving, from a wireless access device supporting the plurality of communication channels, a beacon message through a first communication channel among a plurality of communication channels; obtaining, from the beacon message, wireless access information which is used for accessing a first communication channel; and obtaining, from the beacon message, at least one available communication channel list except for the first communication channel among the plurality of communication channels. Thus, the time for configuring a link between wireless LAN apparatuses can be reduced.

Method and device for configuring multi-band based link in wireless LAN system

A method for setting connection between an access point and a station is provided. The method includes transmitting, by the access point, a communication setup message to one or more stations; and implementing, by the access point, connection setup according to a connection request by the station having received the communication setup message, wherein the communication setup message comprises information about a connection priority requirement by a plurality of network interface card modules, which are included in the access point, using different frequency bands.
