A display device is disclosed. The display device has pixels which include three color sub-pixels, for example, red, green, and blue sub-pixels. The pixels also include a white sub-pixel. The display calculates data for the red, green, blue, and white sub-pixels based on data for red, green, and blue sub-pixels.

A display apparatus is disclosed. In one aspect the apparatus includes an encoder configured to encode a Nth first image data, where N is an integer of 2 or greater and a (N&#x2212;1)th second image data at different rates. The display further includes a memory configured to store the encoded Nth first image data and the encoded (N&#x2212;1)th second image data, a decoder configured to decode the encoded Nth first image data and the encoded (N&#x2212;1)th second image data received from the memory and, an image processor configured to perform color processing on the decoded Nth first image data. It also includes an image converter configured to convert the Nth first image data received from the image processor into Nth second image data and an image quality enhancer configured to enhance image quality of the Nth second image data based on the decoded (N&#x2212;1)th second image data.

A display apparatus includes a first substrate opposite a second substrate, a plurality of electrode patterns in the second substrate, the plurality of electrode patterns extending along a first direction, a plurality of barrier patterns in the second substrate, the plurality of barrier patterns being insulated from the electrode patterns and extending along a second direction crossing the first direction, and a plurality of pixels, the first and second substrates with the pixels defining a display panel, and each pixel including a gate line extending along a third direction, a data line extending along a fourth direction, and a pixel electrode electrically connected to the gate line and the data line, the pixel electrode being configured to generate an electric field with a corresponding electrode pattern of the plurality of electrode patterns to display an image.
