The light guide plate includes: a light source unit for generating light; a light guide plate proximate to the light source unit and including an upper surface and a lower surface; and a light emission pattern configured to diffuse a portion of the light directed toward an image display panel, and a first straight pattern configured to channel the light along a direction substantially parallel to a direction of propagation of the light generated by the light source unit, both the light emission pattern and the first straight pattern being disposed on one of the upper surface and the lower surface of the light guide plate, in which the first straight pattern has peaks and valleys formed in alternating and repeating manner in a direction substantially perpendicular to a direction of propagation of the light generated by the light source unit.

A backlight assembly that is adapted for use with an image displaying flat panel includes a light guide plate assembly and one or more light sources disposed under the light guide plate assembly. An upper portion of the light guide plate assembly is overlapped by a display area of the flat panel while a lower portion is disposed under the upper portion, and includes light guiding material for redirecting sourced light as well as reflectors for also redirecting light sourced from small, light sourcing areas underneath the upper portion for redistribution into the larger area of light guiding material provided in the upper portion of the light guide plate assembly. The upper portion also has one or more light reflectors. In one embodiment, opposed ones of light sources are angled so they don't shine light directly into one another.

In a light-emitting assembly and a display apparatus having the light-emitting assembly, the light-emitting assembly includes a light guide plate, a first light-emitting module and a second light-emitting module. The light guide plate includes a first surface, a second surface facing the first surface and including a light incident portion and a light exiting portion, and a third surface connecting the first surface with the second surface and inclined toward the first surface. The first light-emitting module is on the light incident portion of the second surface and emits a first light to the light incident portion. The amount and cost of the light diffusing agent can be reduced, light transmittance can be improved, light uniformity can be enhanced without occurrence of bright lines, and intensity of light to be viewed is improved, thereby enhancing luminance.

A backlight assembly includes a plurality of light sources emitting light and a diffusion plate. The diffusion plate includes an incident surface on which the light is incident, an exit surface which is opposite the incident surface and from which the light exits, and first and second lens patterns which are disposed on the exit surface and have different shapes from each other. Each of the first lens patterns includes a first curved portion which forms a curve and first linear portions which extend from both ends of the first curved portion, respectively. Each of the second lens patterns includes a second curved portion which forms a curve and second linear portions which extend from both ends of the second curved portion, respectively.

A backlight assembly includes a plurality of lamps, a multi-plate diffusion member, optical sheets and a receiving container. The lamps have a rod shape extended in a first direction, and are arranged along a second direction that is substantially perpendicular to the first direction. The diffusion member is disposed above the lamps and has at least two optical plates. Each of the optical plates includes a plurality of optical patterns on a surface facing away from the lamps. The optical patterns are extended in the first direction and aligned along the second direction. The optical sheets are disposed above the diffusion member to improve optical characteristics of passed through light. The receiving container includes a reflective bottom plate and a sidewall formed on an edge of the bottom plate to receive the lamps, the diffusion member and the optical sheets.

In a backlight assembly and a display device including the backlight assembly, the backlight assembly includes a light dispersion member and a light source having a plurality of light source members, a distance defined between the light sources members adjacent to each other. The light dispersion member includes a lower face portion having alternately arranged ridges and grooves. Each light source is positioned under a respective ridge. An interval between a center of each light source and the respective ridge positioned directly over the light source is from about 0.2 to about 0.55 times the distance.

The diffusion plate includes a base layer including of a first optically transparent resin and a first coating layer provided on a first surface of the base layer. A method of forming a diffusion plate includes forming a base layer including a first optically transparent resin, providing random embossings on the base layer and sizing the diffusion plate to predetermined dimensions.
