A polymer electrolyte and a fuel cell employing the polymer electrolyte are provided. The polymer electrolyte includes: an ionic conductive polymer membrane; a porous support having nano-sized pores; and inorganic conductive nano-particles including an ionic conductive material impregnated into the porous support, wherein the inorganic conductive nano-particles are impregnated into microchannels formed by aggregation of polar portions of the ionic conductive polymer membrane, and/or between polymer backbones of the ionic conductive polymer membrane.

A composite electrolyte membrane for decreasing the crossover of polar organic fuel and a fuel cell employing the membrane are provided. The composite electrolyte membrane includes a modified silica in which silicon atoms have substituents as represented by formula 1 and formula 2; and an cation exchange group-containing polymer: Formula 1&#x2014;R&#x2014;SOX Formula 2&#x2014;R&#x2014;S&#x2014;S&#x2014;R&#x2014;wherein, Ris an alkylene group with 2&#x2013;7 carbon atoms, X is a hydrogen atom or an alkali metal, Rand Rare each independently an alkylene group with 2&#x2013;7 carbon atoms.

Composite electrolyte membrane and fuel cell containing the same

A catalyst for purifying exhaust gases from diesel engines with an improved purification efficiency for both nitrogen oxide and particulates in exhaust emissions is provided. The catalyst includes: (i) a first catalytic layer containing a carrier portion including iron (Fe)-doped modified zirconium dioxide, and a catalyst portion including a material selected from the group consisting of copper (Cu), copper oxide, and mixtures thereof, and (ii) a second catalytic layer containing a carrier portion including Cu-doped modified zirconium dioxide, a main catalyst portion including platinum (Pt) and tin (Sn), and a co-catalyst portion including copper oxide. The catalyst portion of the first catalytic layer may contain palladium (Pd) instead of Cu.
