The present invention relates to a device and system for surgical fixation of small bones, small bone fragments, and osteotomies and more particularly to compression screw having a threaded leading portion which is joined to a section that is free from threads, and which includes an angle or from 12° to 25° in a plane through the longitudinal axis of the screw and a portion which is joined to a head having a configuration that is intended to provide anti-rotational stability and compression through the device.

Disclosed is a device for total wrist fusion that includes (a) a first section, which is preferably a plate, that is positioned under the skin on top of the forearm, wrist and potentially part of the hand and connected to one or more of the radius or carpal bones, (b) a second section, which is preferably in the shape of an awl and is received in the cannula of the third metacarpal bone. Optionally, an anti-rotational third section may be included, which can connect to the top of the third metacarpal bone.

A fracture treatment system can include a pair of implants cross-pinned into the medullary canal of a bone, guided by at least one guide wire with at least two diameters. The system allows for more accurate sizing of the length of implants needed to achieve bicortical purchase for enhanced stability, as well as anti-rotation of the fracture site. The more accurate sizing and placement of the cross-pinned implants additionally allow both ends of the implants to recess beneath or be flush with the outer surface of the bone, which can reduce the risk of infection. The guide wire can allow the implants to be inserted using a cannulated technique for easier surgical procedure and better outcome, with the implants having sufficient wall thickness for the desired length to achieve bicortical purchase while keeping the shaft outer diameter of the implant to be similar to a diameter of the guide wire.

A distal radius plate according to the invention is ergonomically formed to be more easily centered on the radius bone. The distal radius plate has two main portions: an elongated portion that attaches to the body of the radius and a distal radius portion that attaches to the lower most, wider portion of the radius bone. Because of its ergonomic shape the distal radius plate is fast and easy to center on the radius and install. In another embodiment, the distal radius plate may include a metal support that is partially or entirely covered with a plastic to eliminate or reduce detailed machining of the metal, which reduces part cost and manufacturing time.

A device and method for stabilizing a broken bone while it heals is disclosed. The device preferably has a (a) first (or proximal) section with a driving head, threads and a first diameter, and (b) second (or distal) section that is threaded and has a second diameter. The first section is preferably greater in diameter than the second section so that greater torque can be applied to tighten the device. The device may include one or more self-tapping structures to lessen the torque required to screw it into a bone.
