A carrier tape for holding a plurality of disks includes a thin, elongate strip of polymer material presenting a longitudinal axis and having a plurality of pockets defined therein. Each pocket is adapted to receive a separate one of the disks. The pockets are spaced apart and arranged along the longitudinal axis of the strip, and each pocket has at least one operable disk restraining structure for retaining the disk when the disk is received in the pocket.

A shipper for memory disks comprises a cassette having an open top and an open bottom, a top cover to cover the open top, and a bottom cover to cover the bottom. The body portion has opposing side walls and opposing end walls. The two side walls each have with a vertical upper portions and an inwardly converging bottom portion. Said sidewalls have inwardly facing elongate teeth or spacers defining slots to hold the substrates in a vertically positioned and spaced array. Each tooth is continuous from the open top to the open bottom and each tooth has a upper vertical portion at the vertical upper portion of the side wall and a converging lower portion at the bottom portion of the side walls. The converging lower portion of each tooth follows the convergence of the bottom portions of the sidewalls. The converging lower portion of each tooth is configured to be different than the configuration of the tooth at the upper portion providing for improved performance in receiving disks to minimize or eliminate the incomplete receipt of disks in the slots such as by the disks catching and resting on the top of the teeth.

A cassette, particularly suitable for storing film frames, in a preferred embodiment utilizes an integral shell portion with a plurality of shelves to support a plurality of axially aligned horizontally stacked film frames. A door, preferably vacuum-formed, covers the open front of the shell to enclose the film frames therein. The cassette may have a robotic top and collapsible handles. In a preferred embodiment the handles are U-shaped and slideably engaged with a pair of brackets integral with the sidewall. In another embodiment the handles pivot about an axis parallel to the top of the cassette and attach by a pair of split prongs insertable into a pair of receiving holes. A pair of film frame retention members are pivotally and rotatably attached at the sides of the shell inside the front opening. The restraints are pivotable between an open position where they are aligned with the sidewalls and pointing toward the open front to a film frame retention position where they are rotated to face inwardly in an approximately radial direction. The film frame retention members may be actuated by handles positioned on the top of the enclosure. Alternatively, the retention members may be automatically actuated by a helical cam mechanism with a engagement portion extending below the cassette to contact a surface upon which the cassette is placed. The members may be biased and spring loaded such that they remain in the retention position and/or the open position when so placed.

Horizontal cassette

A tray for semiconductors having a tray portion, a rail portion, and an intermediate portion. The tray portion has a plurality of chip recesses formed therein. The rail portion extends substantially around the tray portion. The intermediate portion interconnects the tray portion and the rail portion and is oriented at an angle of more than 115&#xb0; with respect to the rail portion.

Tray for semiconductors

A semi-conductor chip tray and associated retainer and method of use. The tray is provided with a plurality of side notches and tabs which are configured to admit and engage a plurality of posts and flanges, respectively, which extend from the retainer. The tray and retainer are attached to each other by setting the retainer on top of the tray in a linearly offset manner wherein the posts of the retainer extend into the corresponding side notches of the tray. The retainer is then aligned with the tray in a relative sliding motion. During alignment, the flanges of the retainer engage the tabs of the tray to secure the retainer to the tray. The tabs of the tray are provided with recesses which are configured to snugly receive projections which extend from the flanges of the retainer, thus allowing the retainer to be locked in a predetermined position as the retainer and lid are aligned. This locking feature facilitates alignment and prevents inadvertent or accidental displacement between the retainer and the tray.
