Method, system and device for service selection via a wireless local area network

The invention relates to a method of transferring required messages for acquiring a temporary MAC address in a wireless local area network. In a first device in the local area network, a first identifier is determined to identify the first device. A message comprising the first identifier is transmitted from the first device to a second device to arrange a temporary MAC address. A response message relating to the acquisition of the MAC address and comprising the first identifier is transmitted from the second device to the first device. The first device identifies on the basis of the first identifier that the response message is intended for it.

Addressing in wireless local area networks

A mechanism is provided for supporting differentiated services (quality of service) in a radio network. A radio access system is provided which supports the quality of service in data packet transmission over its air interface. The system comprises a selection of predefined default radio flows having different quality of service characteristics and means () for selecting a radio flow having appropriate quality of service characteristics for the packet to be transmitted over the air interface from the selection.

Method and system for supporting the quality of service in wireless networks

A method of transmitting Internet data between a mobile host and a remote host coupled via the Internet and a GSM/GPRS cellular telephone network. A plurality of Internet Quality of Service (QoS) levels are defined, in terms of the guaranteed transmission delay over the Internet, using RSVP. A guaranteed QoS is mapped to a circuit switched transmission mode (HSCSD) of the telephone network while a Controlled Load and a Best Effort QoS are mapped respectively to two different service levels of a packet switched transmission mode (GPRS) of the radio telephone network. Resource reservation in mobile internet protocol

The invention relates to an integrated data transfer system, the extensive basis of which is constituted by a general cellular radio system, preferably the GSM system, and in which a radio local area network, preferably the HIPERLAN network, is used for communication between data terminals (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, 3e, 3f) in small areas with dense communications. In addition, the Internet network (6) is used for fast data transfer. The connection between networks is controlled and handled by a gateway computer (1) located in each radio local area network. In view of the cellular radio system, the gateway computer operates like a base station controller (BSC). The radio local area network consists of the coverage areas or cells (4b, 4c) of the data terminals, and it can be formed, changed and dissolved freely. The computer terminals (3c) preferably have an Internet address enabling mobility, whereby the gateway computer (1) handles the routing to the nodes of the network and the mobile Internet nodes visiting it. In a home or small office environment (HE) there can be formed a small-scale radio local area network, the gateway (10) of which is by means of an existing connection and the corresponding general data transfer network (8) connected to a certain, larger local area network, preferably located in an office environment.

Integrated radio communication system

The invention relates to integrated office communication systems employing a local area network (LAN) for intra-office communications. In the arrangement according to the invention, no other internal networks are needed in the office because computers (10) are connected to the local area network and telephones (5, 7) are either mobile or cordless phones for which there are low-power room-specific base stations (4, 6) in the local area network (LAN). Connections to the outside world are made via a gateway computer (1) and public cellular radio network. Inside the office, the coverage areas of the small base stations (4, 6, 8) are nanocells (4a) of one or a few rooms. A home or small office user has a similar small base station (14) which is cotifected to said local area network via a public communication network (15) and a gateway equipment (13).

Office communication system

The present invention concerns an equipment and a method for providing in connection with the fixed communications network (1) a small cellular extension (4), wherein the same kind of radio frequency mobile communication devices (9) can be used as in regular cellular networks (2), in other words, the radio interface (16) of the cellular extension (4) is similar to the radio interface (15) of the regular cellular networks (2). The cellular extension (4) comprises database means (11) for registering the subscribers and for transmitting the calls to the subscribers located in the cellular extension (4) based on the connections between the ISDN numbers of the cellular network determined for the cellular extension (4) and stored into the database means (11), and the IMSI codes of the subscribers. The invention doesn't require the same kind of signaling between the cellular extension and the regular cellular network as used in the regular cellular network (2) for implementing the data transfer between the mobile switching centers (5) and between the mobile switching centers (5) and the registers (7).
