A microelectromechanical gyroscope includes a drive loop having a drive element and a drive loop circuitry. The drive loop circuitry includes a clock generating circuitry for generating from the quadrature-phase detection signal a test clock signal, an angular rate phase demodulation signal and a quadrature phase demodulation signal. A sense loop includes a sense element and sense loop circuitry for detecting angular rate and producing a force-feedback signal. A test signal generator receives a quadrature-phase detection signal to be used as a quadrature-phase carrier signal and the test clock signal A summing element sums a test signal with the force-feedback signal to form a sense feedback signal. A rate phase demodulator produces a rate signal by demodulating a sense signal received from the sense loop with the angular rate phase demodulation signal, and a quadrature-phase demodulator produces a quadrature-phase output signal.

Continuous self-test of a gyroscope

An optical device that provides a broadened circular scanning pattern. The device includes a reflector system dimensioned to form a coupled oscillator with two modes of oscillation for circular tilt motion, a first mode oscillation in a first resonance frequency and a second mode of oscillation in a second resonance frequency that is different from the first resonance frequency. A signal processing element is configured to control the actuation signals to maintain a first amplitude in the first mode of oscillation, and a second amplitude in the second mode of oscillation.

A capacitive sensor that includes at least one capacitive element and a switched-capacitor readout circuit part for detecting at least one signal capacitance that results from motions of the capacitive element. The self-test bias voltage of the actuation circuit part is coupled to the capacitive element during a first period that is synchronized to the front end reset period and occurs when the self-test of the capacitive sensor is enabled by the self-test controller.

The invention relates to a method and apparatus for predicting a sudden heart abnormality for an individual patient. In order to provide a prediction mechanism that is suitable for acute care, three sub-indices are determined based on medical data obtained from the patient. The first sub-index indicates the level of deterministic chaos in the heart rate variability of the patient, the second sub-index indicates the energy level in the myocardium of the patient, and the third sub-index indicates the degree of ventricular arrhythmia of the patient. Based on the first, second, and third sub-indices, at least one overall risk index is then determined, the overall risk index indicating the risk level of a sudden heart abnormality for the patient.

Estimation of cardiac death risk

The invention relates to a method and system for detecting atrial arrhythmia, especially atrial fibrillations. Based on at least one electrical signal indicative of a heart's activity, a plurality of short-term HRV data sets are generated, one short-term HRV data set indicating the heart's rate variability within a time period of a given length, and two consecutive short-term HRV data sets having a given time difference. A frequency analysis of each short-term HRV data set is then performed and a power level corresponding to at least one selected frequency component in each short-term HRV data set is defined. The occurrence of the heart's atrial arrhythmia episodes are then estimated on the basis of the power levels defined.
