Disclosed are devices and methods for dissolving sample substances such as drug molecules. Also disclosed is use of the method for device for testing dissolution rates of the sample substances. It utilizes lyophilic matrices that create conditions for discriminating the dissolved sample substance from undissolved sample substances. This is aimed at preventing dispersion of the undissolved sample substance to avoid any substantial membrane effects.

Device, method and kit for dissolution testing

The invention relates to a method and a device for producing nanoparticles of organic substances, in particular by controlled expansion of pressurized solutions. The method comprises: admixing the organic substance and a supercritical fluid to form a mixture at a first pressure; decreasing the first pressure gradually to a second pressure so that a flow of the mixture is formed and nucleation of the organic substance in the mixture is initiated; and, decreasing the second pressure to a third pressure, so that solidification of the fluid of the mixture, comprising the nucleated organic substance, is initiated. The device comprises: a pressure chamber () for a mixture of the organic substance and a supercritical fluid; a collection chamber () for the nanoparticles; an outlet tube () connecting the pressure chamber to the collection chamber (); and, one or more second nozzles (). The outlet tube is provided with a pressure controlling means () configured to control pressure of the mixture within the outlet tube and a first nozzle () configured to allow expansion of the mixture to the collection chamber.

Method and a device for producing nanoparticles

The invention relates to a measuring method for measuring the properties of a powder or granular sample () from the surface information of the sample. According to the method the sample is leveled for the measurement, at least one image of the surface of the sample () is taken and the properties, such as the grain-size distribution, of the sample () are determined by processing the information material by calculation. A method for producing a fatty blend of &bgr;-sitosterol, or of &bgr;-sitosterol and &bgr;-sitostanol, which is useful for lowering the serum total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels which method includes forming a mixture by dissolving 0.5-80 wt % of a starting material containing &bgr;-sitosterol, or &bgr;-sitosterol and &bgr;-sitostanol, in 5-90 wt % of oil or fat, or mixtures thereof, by heating at a temperature of 80-140&deg; C. until the starting material containing &bgr;-sitosterol or &bgr;-sitosterol and &bgr;-sitostanol is dissolved; cooling the mixture to a temperature of 40-80&deg; C.; during the cooling adding 5-30 wt % of water with a temperature essentially similar to that of the mixture to the mixture, and agitating the mixture and the water to form a homogeneous and stable dispersion of the mixture in the water, wherein the starting material containing &bgr;-sitosterol or &bgr;-sitosterol and &bgr;-sitostanol is partly dissolved and/or microcrystalline form. A composition made by the method can be mixed into ingredients of food products. Serum total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels can be lowered by administration of the composition.
