A novel radio frequency sequence, suitable for performing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of 2-dimensional (2D) slices of samples exhibiting short magnetization coherence times (i.e., hard tissues). The SS-ZTE pulse sequence contains the following steps: a) magnetizing all spins in the sample from a longitudinal direction to the transverse plane; b) exciting the 2D slice of interest, which comprises the selective locking of said 2D sample slice magnetization while spoiling the magnetization in the rest of sample volume; c) making the magnetization of the selected 2D slice impervious to reconfigurations of the magnetic field gradients from slice selection to encoding and readout; d) reading out of the free induction decay signal of the sample; e) repeating steps (a-d) with different readout directions, so as to gather a corresponding number of radial spokes of the plane defined by the 2D sample slice.

The present invention relates to a method for obtaining elastic properties of a soft solid by means of quasi-omnidirectional transverse waves generated by a focused ultrasound beam, with a helical phase profile that produces an acoustic vortex that generates a transverse wave front, not only in the direction perpendicular to the ultrasound beam but also in the same direction as the ultrasound beam. The invention also allows control of the transverse wave front generated, which facilitates the carrying out of elastography studies at different frequencies and increases the amplitude of the transverse waves produced, thereby improving the signal-to-noise ratio.

A PET imaging device for observing a brain includes a hollow three-dimensional structure with a shape capable of housing a head. The PET imaging device comprising multiple independent gamma ray detection modules that together form a structure capable of surrounding the head, said detection modules comprise continuous scintillation crystal blocks, wherein 'continuous' means that the crystal blocks can be continuous in one or in two directions, each of the continuous scintillation crystal blocks has a polygonal main cross-section, and said structure is an elongated structure having a major axis in a direction corresponding to the front-nape direction and a shorter axis in a direction corresponding to a straight line joining ears on the head. The continuous scintillation crystal blocks are positioned adjacent to fit laterally in an exact manner with each other throughout their entire thickness, building a mosaic, without gaps between adjacent crystal blocks and without overlapping each other.

A gamma ray Compton TOF camera system includes multiple detector modules, each comprising a gamma radiation sensitive material and arranged in layers formed by one or more detector modules. The layers are placed such that they interfere an incoming gamma ray in order to completely or partially absorb it after one or more Compton interactions and are spatially separated in order to allow for the determination of the temporal order of each gamma ray interaction inside the camera system. The camera system also includes read out electronics and a Data Acquisition System where signals from the detector modules will be readout, digitized and sent to a processing unit, which is capable to obtain the 3D position, energy and temporal sequential order of the individual interactions produced by a single incident gamma ray.

The subject matter of the invention is a method and an electronic circuit for reading the signals generated by one or more pixelated sensors in a gamma radiation detection system, which makes it possible to substantially reduce the number of electronic channels to be digitized. The electronic circuit in the invention is analog and can also be coupled to other similar circuits in order to acquire the signals from larger sensors.

Gamma ray detector characterised in that its structural elements are a continuous scintillator crystal, a position sensitive photodetector and associated electronics intended to calculate, in addition to the gamma ray energy in the position of its interaction in the crystal, the interaction depth in the crystal from the standard deviation of the scintillation light distribution. Said information may be obtained electronically, in analog form and therefore instantaneous, from the first three moments of the scintillation light distribution. A method for implementing said electronics by way of a network of resistances characterised for analog and simultaneous computation of the first and second distribution moments is also disclosed.
