Bio-ink comprising freeze-dried cells, methods of making a living structure from a bio-ink material of freeze-dried cells, and methods of using the living structure for biosensing, tissue regeneration, environment sensing, drug discovery, catalysis, and/or clinical implementation are described herein.

Bio-ink structures and methods of producing the same

An ink for three dimensional printing a ceramic material includes metal oxide nanoparticles and a polymer resin, where a concentration of the metal oxide nanoparticles is at least about 50 wt % of a total mass of the ink. A method of forming a porous ceramic material includes obtaining an ink, where the ink comprises a mixture of metal oxide nanoparticles and a polymer, forming a body from the ink, curing the formed body, heating the formed body for removing the polymer and for forming a porous ceramic material from the metal oxide nanoparticles. The forming the body includes an additive manufacturing process with the ink.

Porous ceramics for additive manufacturing, filtration, and membrane applications

The present disclosure relates to a method for forming a transport mechanism for transporting at least one of a gas or a liquid. The method may comprise using a 3D printing operation to form the mechanism with an inlet and an outlet, and controlling the 3D printing operation to create the mechanism as an engineered surface structure formed in a layer-by-layer process. The method may further comprise controlling the 3D printing operation such that the engineered surface structure includes a plurality of cells propagating periodically in three dimensions, with non-intersecting, non-flat, continuously curving wall portions which form two non-intersecting domains, and where the wall portions have openings forming a plurality of flow paths extending in three orthogonal dimensions throughout from the inlet to the outlet, and such that the engineered surface structure has wall portions having a mean curvature other than zero.

Systems and methods for periodic nodal surface based reactors, distributors, contractors and heat exchangers

An ink includes a vinyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane polymer, a polydimethylsiloxane copolymer having a hydride component, wherein a hydride to a vinyl ratio (hydride:vinyl) is in a range of greater than 1:1 to about 4:1, a hydrophobic filler, a crosslinking agent, and a carbon dioxide-binding component. A method includes extruding an ink for forming a three-dimensional (3D) structure, the ink including a vinyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane polymer, a polydimethylsiloxane copolymer having a hydride component, wherein a hydride to a vinyl ratio (hydride:vinyl) is in a range of greater than 1:1 to about 4:1, a hydrophobic filler, a crosslinking agent, and a carbon dioxide-binding component. The method further includes curing the 3D structure for forming a silicone polymer product having the carbon dioxide-binding component.

Polymer formulations for extrusion of composite COsorbents

A porous sorbent ceramic product includes a three-dimensional structure having an electrically conductive ceramic material, wherein the conductive ceramic material has an open cell structure with a plurality of intra-material pores, a sorbent additive primarily present in the intra-material pores of the conductive ceramic material for adsorption of a gas, and at least two electrodes in electrical communication with the conductive ceramic material.

The present disclosure relates to a transport mechanism apparatus for transporting at least one of a gas or a fluid. The transport mechanism may have an inlet, an outlet and an engineered cellular structure forming a periodic nodal surface, which may include a triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) structure. The structure is formed in a layer-by-layer three dimensional (3D) printing operation to include cells propagating in three dimensions, where the cells include non-intersecting, continuously curving wall portions having openings, and where the opening in the cells form a plurality of flow paths throughout the transport mechanism from the inlet to the outlet, and where portions of the cells form the inlet and the outlet.

Systems and methods for periodic nodal surface based reactors, distributors, contactors and heat exchangers

Fabrication of functional polymer-based particles by crosslinking UV-curable polymer drops in mid-air and collecting crosslinked particles in a solid container, a liquid suspension, or an air flow. The particles can contain different phases in the form or layered structures that contain one to multiple cores, or structures that are blended with dissolved or emulsified smaller domains. A curing system produces ultraviolet rays that are directed onto the particles in the jet stream from one side. A reflector positioned on other side of the jet stream reflects the ultraviolet rays back onto the particles in the jet stream.

Fabricating structured particles through rapid hardening and tailored collection methods

In accordance with one aspect of the presently disclosed inventive concepts, a porous ceramic structure includes a three-dimensional printed structure having predefined features, where the three-dimensional structure has a geometric shape. The average length of the features may be at least 10 microns. The three-dimensional structure includes a ceramic material having an open cell structure with a plurality of pores, where the pores form continuous channels through the ceramic material from one side of the ceramic material to an opposite side of the ceramic material.

The present disclosure relates to an absorber column apparatus for removing a selected component of a gas. The apparatus may have a first zone, a second zone and a third zone, wherein the first and third zones form a first domain through which a first fluid laden with a select gaseous component to be removed therefrom flows along concurrently with a second fluid. The second fluid at least substantially removes the select gaseous component from the first fluid to create a third fluid. The first fluid leaves the absorber column as a fourth fluid with the select gaseous component at least substantially removed therefrom. The second zone forms an active packing zone including a structure which forms an independent second domain in thermal communication with the first domain. The second receives a quantity of the third fluid and channels it through the second zone to help cool at least one of the first and second fluids.

System and method for integrated absorber intercooling via rich solvent stream using 3D-printed active packings

According to one embodiment, a microcapsule for selective catalysis of gases, the microcapsule comprising: a polymeric shell permeable to one or more target gases; and at least one biocatalyst disposed in an interior of the polymeric shell. In more embodiments, methods of forming such microcapsules include: emulsifying at least one biocatalyst in a polymer precursor mixture; emulsifying the polymer precursor mixture in an aqueous carrier solution; crosslinking one or more polymer precursors of the polymer precursor mixture to form a plurality of microcapsules each independently comprising: a polymeric shell permeable to one or more target gases; and at least one biocatalyst disposed in an interior of the polymeric shell. In further embodiments, corresponding methods of using the inventive microcapsules for catalyzing one or more target gases using include: exposing a plurality of the biocatalytic microcapsules to the one or more target gases.
