A controller may configure the machine to operate in a plurality of modes including a manned control mode, a remote control mode, and an autonomous control mode. The controller may receive a request to cause the machine to perform an action; and determine a requested mode of operation of the machine associated with the request. The requested mode of operation may be one of the plurality of modes. The controller may selectively deny the request or enable the machine to perform the action based on a priority assigned to a current mode of operation of the machine and a priority assigned to the requested mode of operation.

Following acceptable performance characteristics, online operating speed of the machine continues to be increased and revaluated until the machine reaches maximum designated operating speed, or is evaluated as unacceptable, in which case the machine continues to operate at the last acceptable online operating speed and identifies the unacceptable performance characteristic for further evaluation.

The speed planning device may perform a method including obtaining elevation information associated with a route for a vehicle; identifying a section of the route based on the elevation information, wherein the section is associated with a change in elevation; determining subsections of the section; determining respective slopes of the subsections and respective lengths of the subsections; obtaining information identifying a mass associated with the vehicle; generating a speed plan for the vehicle to traverse the section, wherein the speed plan indicates one or more speeds at which the vehicle is to correspondingly traverse the subsections based on the respective slopes of the subsections, the respective lengths of the subsections, and the mass associated with the vehicle; and providing the speed plan to permit the vehicle to be controlled to traverse the section according to the one or more speeds of the speed plan.

A failure prediction and notification system for a work surface that has a raised contour includes a perception sensor mounted on a machine and a controller. The controller determines an initial physical characteristic of the initial topography of the work surface adjacent the raised contour, generates an electronic map of a current topography of the work surface based at least partially on the raw data points, and determines a current physical characteristic of the current topography. The controller further determines a difference between the current physical characteristic and the initial physical characteristic, compares the difference to a characteristic difference threshold, and generates an alert upon the difference exceeding the characteristic difference threshold.

Work surface failure prediction and notification system

A control system for a machine traveling on a work surface is provided. The control system includes a perception system generating data indicative of a contour of the work surface. The control system includes a controller communicably coupled to the perception system. The controller receives a signal indicative of a current position of the machine on the work surface as the machine travels along a first direction. The controller initiates a scanning of the work surface by the perception system. The controller receives the signal indicative of the contour of the work surface from the perception system and identifies a raised contour and a contour edge within a target area on the work surface. The controller determines a location of the contour edge within the target area based on the identification and controls a positioning of the machine within the target area and relative to the raised contour.

System and method for controlling edge dumping of mobile machines

A method for controlling a mining truck travelling on a work site is disclosed. The method includes receiving payload information associated with a payload carried in a bed of the mining truck from sensors associated with the mining truck. The method further includes determining an imbalance of the payload based on the payload information. The method further includes receiving positioning data associated with the work site from a positioning system and determining an approaching terrain of the work site based on the positioning data. The method further includes planning a path for the mining truck based on the imbalance and the approaching terrain and controlling the mining truck based on the path.

Stabilization based path planning

A control system is disclosed for use with a machine. The control system may have a communicating device, a locating device configured to generate a first signal indicative of a location of the machine, a sensor configured to generate a second signal indicative of contact of the machine with a berm, and an onboard controller. The control system may also have an offboard controller configured to generate a first set of coordinates of a dump target, and to assign the first set of coordinates to the onboard controller for use in controlling the machine. The offboard controller may also be configured to detect contact of the machine with the berm based on the second signal during reverse travel toward the dump target, and to generate a second set of coordinates of the dump target to correspond with a location of the machine at a time of contact detection.

Machine control system having autonomous edge dumping

A control system is disclosed for use with a machine at a worksite. The control system may have an offboard controller. The offboard controller may be configured to receive information regarding a berm at the worksite, determine starting and ending points spaced apart along an edge of the berm based on the information, and determine a maximum orthogonal distance from a virtual line extending between the starting and ending points to the edge of the berm. The offboard controller may be further configured to selectively validate the starting and ending points based on the maximum orthogonal distance, and to designate a center of the virtual line between validated starting and ending points as a dump target.

A position identification system for use with a mobile machine at a worksite is disclosed. The system may include an integration module configured to integrate information from at least one motion sensor and at least one GPS receiver to generate a location signal indicative of an actual location of the mobile machine. A controller may be provided in communication with the at least one motion sensor, the at least one GPS receiver, and the integration module, the controller being configured to determine the reliability of information received from the at least one motion sensor, the at least one GPS receiver, and the integration module, and following a period of time from when received information is first determined to be unreliable, switching from determining the position of the mobile machine using information determined to be unreliable to determining the position of the mobile machine using dead reckoning from a last known good position of the mobile machine, a determined wheel speed of the mobile machine, and a steering command being provided to the mobile machine.

Position identification system with multiple cross-checks

A control system is disclosed for use with a plurality of machines operating at a worksite. The control system may have a plurality of communicating devices, and a plurality of onboard controllers, each mountable to the plurality of machines. The control system may also have an offboard controller in communication with the plurality of onboard controllers via the plurality of communicating devices. The offboard controller may be configured to selectively assign each of a plurality of sequentially arranged dump targets for use by each of the plurality of machines based on an order in which the plurality of machines arrive at a dump location. The offboard controller may be further configured to make a determination that lanes extending to two dump targets of the plurality of sequentially arranged dump targets overlap, and selectively skip assignment of one of the two dump targets based on the determination.

A system including a mobile machine and a central control station is provided. The mobile machine includes a communication device and a position monitoring system including a receiver configured to receive position data from a positioning satellite and generate a position signal. The position monitoring system also includes an inertial navigation unit including a sensor configured to measure a parameter of the mobile machine and generate a movement signal. The position monitoring system also includes a controller configured to receive the position signal and the movement signal, detect an unavailability of the position signal, calculate a position parameter, determine whether a difference between a first and a second value of a parameter exceeds a predetermined threshold, and generate a warning signal. The central control station is configured to communicate with the controller, receive the position signal and/or the movement signal, and monitor the position of the mobile machine.
