A method and probe device are presented, suitable for use in joint arthroscopy. A beam of pulsed laser radiation of a wavelength range of about 2700-3000 nm and a predetermined frequency of pulses is produced, directed to a joint region inside a fluid medium and maintained substantially focused on a treatment target within the joint region during a predetermined time period. By this, a tissue within the treatment target is effected by the laser radiation.

System and method for salivary stones removal and joint arthroscopy

A system for protection from light generated by interaction of laser energy with matter is provided. The system, which is designed for use with lasing apparatus having a laser, includes an optical protection device with at least one optical element of a material that transforms between an active state for blocking laser light and an inactive state, where the optical element is transparent. A mechanism for controlling the transformation of the optical element between the inactive and active states, attaches to the optical protection device and the lasing apparatus respectively, and is responsive to the activating and deactivating of the laser, such that when the laser is activated, the control mechanism causes the optical element to transform to the active state and when the laser is deactivated, the control mechanism causes the optical element to transform to the inactive state.

Light protection system

An endoscopic attachment to a surgical laser comprises a hollow endoscopic tube adapted to be coupled at its rear end to the surgical laser, a coupling device including a pivotable reflector in the path of the laser beam transmitted through the endoscopic tube for reflecting same to the working area at the front end of the tube, and a manipulatable joystick connected to the reflector for manipulating the laser beam to direct it through the endoscopic tube and to selected positions in the working area at the front end of the tube. The attachment is to be used with a surgical laser producing a working laser beam and a separate, visible, aiming laser beam, the latter being partially reflected by the reflector and partially transmitted through the reflector to permit viewing the working area. The reflector further includes a light-absorbing member located to absorb the visible light transmitted through the reflector from the aiming laser beam, but not to interfere with observing the working area through the eyepiece.

Endoscopic attachment to a surgical laser

An ophthalmoscopic instrument for measuring eye defects, particularly cataract and flare, is described including a beam-splitter for splitting a light-beam into a first portion travelling through a first path to the examined eye from which it is reflected back to a viewing station, and a second portion travelling through a second path to a light scatterer from which it is reflected back to the viewing station. A variable filter is provided in the second path and is varied to match the intensity of the light arriving at the viewing station from the second path with the light arriving at the viewing station from the first path, to provide an indication of the intensity of the later light. The instrument further includes a second filter which is selectively either introduced into the second path to adapt the instrument for measuring flare, or removed from the second path to adapt the instrument for measuring cataract.
