A method for localizing hard objects in soft tissue utilizing a computer based system includes receiving ultrasound data from an ultrasound scanner and converting on the computer based system the ultrasound data into a reflectivity image. The method also includes selecting voxels from the reflectivity image that exceed an adaptive threshold, locating disjointed voxel clusters formed by the selected voxels, and outputting to an external processor locations of the voxel clusters that form a desired shape to an external processor.

The graphics commands are converted into a graphical language that facilitates the execution of the commands for a plurality of output devices of one or more types.

Architecture for rendering graphics on output devices

A system and a method for rendering data associated with a 3-D scene description are provided. The system includes a graphics processing unit configured to operably communicate with a communications bus. The graphics processing unit is further configured to receive the 3-D scene description from the communications bus and to generate a 3-D image data set comprising at least a first 2-D data field based on the 3-D scene description. The graphics processing unit is further configured to transmit the 3-D image data set through the communication bus.

A 3D display may comprise a rotating optical diffuser screen; and a projector for projecting images through the rotating optical diffuser screen. The rotating optical diffuser screen may be structured to optically create an exit pupil, said exit pupil having a limited horizontal viewing angle for displaying 3D images in specific viewing zones as the rotating optical diffuser screen rotates.

Radial multiview three-dimensional displays

Three-dimensional display apparatus and methods are disclosed. The apparatus and methods generate three-dimensional images for an observer by providing components of the image in a series of frames to an image space. Providing the image components can include: scanning an image of a light shaping element over an image space wherein each of a plurality of zones of the light shaping element is projected to each of a plurality of zones of the image space; and, selectively illuminating portions of the light shaping element zones during each of several frames during the scan, wherein each light-shaping element zone scatters the illumination and at least a portion of the scattered illumination provides a component of the three-dimensional image in the image space.

A method for rapid rendering of a desired line in a volumetric display having a rotatable screen includes stepping the rotatable screen through a sequence of angular positions and, at each angular position, rendering, on the rotatable screen, a rasterized approximation of a line segment containing an intersection of the desired line and the rotatable screen.

A holographic imaging system and method includes a radiation source for generating radiation. A data base has a set of elements, each element is indicative of a trajectory of a light ray exiting a point in a recorded scene. A spatial light modulator is receptive of the radiation from the radiation source and the elements of the data base mapped to the spatial light modulator, thereby projecting from the spatial light modulator an optical signal in the nature of a two dimensional bitmap of the recorded scene. A diffractive optical element includes a set of basis fringes receptive of the projected optical signal from the spatial light modulator for diffracting the optical signal in a specified direction. A multiplexer is receptive of the elements of the data base for multiplexing the elements of the data base to the spatial light modulator. A timing device synchronizes multiplexing the elements of the data base to the spatial light modulator and diffracting the optical signal in a specified direction.

Radiation conditioning system

A method for rendering a polytope in a volumetric display includes partitioning the polytope into a plurality of polytope sections, each of the polytope sections being disposed in an active slice defined by an entry plane and an exit plane. The presence of an imaging screen within the active slice is then detected. While the imaging screen is within the active slice, a connecting polygon is defined on the basis of a projection of the polytope section on the entry plane. This connecting polygon is then rendered on the imaging screen.
