A ceiling ventilation hood and fire protection system includes a ceiling ventilation hood, the ceiling ventilation hood defining an upper plane and a lower plane with a filter disposed between the upper and lower planes, and at least two nozzles each having an outlet defining a discharge axis with the outlet disposed in the ceiling ventilation hood between the upper and lower planes to provide overlapping protection of a hazard zone. Each of the nozzles define a spray pattern to effectively address a fire within the hazard zone independent of airflow through the filter. The outlets of the at least two nozzles are positioned at least 54 inches above the hazard zone.

Fire protection systems and methods for ventilation hoods

Preferred systems and methods for ceiling ventilation hood fire protection are provided in which fire protection nozzles are installed within a ventilation hood () to address a fire in a hazard zone (HAZ) below the ventilation hood. The fire protection nozzles () are disposed proximate the ventilation filters () or ports within the ceiling ventilation hood to provide overlapping protection of the hazard zone independent of airflow through the hood.

An automatic fire suppressing system is preferably provided onboard a vehicle and is supplied with one or more fire suppressing agents that are discharged in response to detecting a fire threat. Preferred embodiments include high-speed valves for discharging the fire suppressing agent(s), optical detectors for detecting and evaluating fire threat conditions, and modules for monitoring and controlling the automatic fire suppressing system.

High speed automatic fire suppression system and method

A valve for a fire extinguishing system includes a housing, a flow control apparatus, an actuator apparatus, and a manual override apparatus. The flow control apparatus is disposed in a cavity to prevent or permit flow of the fire extinguishing agent from an ingress aperture to an egress aperture of the housing. The flow control apparatus includes a burst disk clamped between the first and second annular faces and an annular spool axially movable along the longitudinal axis relative to the housing. The actuator apparatus includes a bearing sleeve angularly movable around a longitudinal axis relative to the housing and a latch element operably coupling the bearing sleeve and the annular spool. The manual override apparatus includes a cam operably coupled to the bearing sleeve.
