Intravascular blood pumps and methods of use. The blood pump include a pump portion that includes a collapsible blood conduit defining a blood flow lumen between an inflow and an outflow. The pump portion includes a distal collapsible impeller axially spaced from a proximal collapsible impeller, at least a portion of each of the distal and proximal collapsible impellers disposed between the inflow and the outflow.

Intravascular blood pump systems and methods of use and control thereof

An elongated member and a method of manufacturing an elongated member may include first, second, and third elongated rod mandrels. The first, second, and third elongated rod mandrels may be fixed together at predetermined proximal and distal locations and at a ball tip. The first, second, and third rod mandrels may be disposed within a tubular coupling element and fixed to the tubular coupling element at the ball tip. The tubular coupling element may be placed into abutment with and fixed to the distal end of an elongated shaft.

Organ manipulation devices for atraumatically grasping the surface of an organ and repositioning the organ to allow access to a location on the organ that would otherwise be substantially inaccessible. Methods of accessing a beating heart, retracting the heart using an organ manipulation apparatus, and stabilizing a surgical target area with a stabilizer. Both the organ manipulator and stabilizer are fixed to a stationary object which may be a sternal retractor. A system for performing beating heart coronary artery bypass grafting includes a sternal retractor, organ manipulator and stabilizer.

Organ manipulator apparatus

Surgical devices for stabilizing the heart are disclosed which facilitate anastomosis under beating heart conditions. Various instruments or devices may be maneuvered and secured on a retractor device to provide stabilization of the heart. An instrument mount is provided which is preferably configured to accept a surgical instrument, such as a tissue stabilizer, and to allow the instrument to be easily maneuvered to a desired position and subsequently locked into position with a simple operation of a single locking actuator. Further disclosed are stabilizer devices each having at least one surface for contacting the heart and each being adapted to be mounted to the retractor while having the ability to be positioned in the desired location against the heart.

Surgical instruments for accessing and stabilizing a localized portion of a beating heart

An apparatus for delivering a medical device onto a heart includes a housing within which is releasably disposed the medical device. The housing in one embodiment comprises inner and outer deflectors between which is delivered the medical device. Both deflectors are self-expanding. A deflector compression sheath is slidable longitudinally over the housing to a delivery position at which it moves the deflectors to a collapsed configuration. The compression sheath is retracted to a deployment position to permit the deflectors to deploy by self-expanding to their larger diameters. The outer deflector has an expanded diameter sufficient to engage the inner surface of the pericardium to hold it away from the delivery site while the second deflector guides the medical device into position over the heart while protecting the heart. In another embodiment, the housing includes only an outer deflector. The apparatus also functions as an introducer when the compression sheath is moved to the delivery or 'introducer' position at which configuration, the apparatus functions as an introducer.

Medical device delivery system having integrated introducer

A system for creating a passage through the pericardium of a patient to permit access of a cardiac harness delivery device, including a tubular introducer sleeve and a tubular dilator sleeve insertable into the introducer sleeve. The introducer sleeve has a slot and a distal portion biased in a reduced opening. The distal end being positioned within an incision through the pericardium. Insertion of the dilator sleeve into the introducer sleeve causes it to push outwardly against the reduced opening, thereby expanding the reduced opening of the introducer sleeve sufficiently to permit a cardiac harness delivery device to access the epicardium. The introducer sleeve is releasably locked to the dilator sleeve by operation of a slot on the introducer sleeve and a protrusion on the dilator sleeve, which slides within the slot. The slot has detents that releasably lock the dilator sleeve at alternative positions within the introducer sleeve, thereby maintaining the reduced opening or, alternatively, the expanded opening to facilitate operation of a cardiac harness delivery device.

Introducer for a cardiac harness delivery

The apparatus includes and elongate body having a proximal portion and a distal portion. The body includes a cavity sized to contain a cardiac harness in a compacted configuration and also includes a plurality of elongate push rods movable with respect to the body. The cardiac harness is releasably connected to each of the push rods such that advancement of the push rods in a distal direction moves the harness from a compacted configuration, within the cavity, to an expanded configuration, outside the cavity. The apparatus also includes a releasing member for releasing the connections between the push rods and the harness upon actuation of the releasing member by a user.

Cardiac harness delivery device and method

Devices and methods are disclosed for stabilizing tissue within a patient's body during a surgical operation to provide a relatively motionless surgical field. The devices involve tissue stabilizers which provide superior engagement with a tissue structure to be stabilized, for example the beating heart. The tissue stabilizer may have one or more stabilizer feet which provide for adjustment of the orientation of the features which engage the surface of the tissue structure. In one instance, the orientation may be adjusted to ensure the engaging features will be properly aligned with the surface of the tissue structure before engagement. In addition, once engaged with or connected to the tissue structure the orientation may be adjusted to yield an optimum surgical presentation of a portion of the tissue structure, for instance a coronary artery or the like. The tissue stabilizer may be configured to use friction, negative pressure, or both to engage the surface of the heart.

Tissue stabilizer and methods of use

A delivery device configured for delivering a cardiac harness onto the heart is disclosed. The device includes a plurality of push rods, a housing, and a control mechanism. The device also includes a method of pulling a cardiac harness onto a heart. The method includes inserting the delivery device through a minimally invasive incision sized to receive the housing. The housing is advanced through the incision so that the housing is adjacent the heart and advanced distally out of the housing by advancing the control assembly distally over a shaft. The housing mounts the cardiac harness on the heart and releases the harness from the push rods.
