An apparatus includes a cover assembly, a gasket, and a housing assembly. The cover assembly generally has a hook feature and a first locking feature. The hook feature generally has a first passage in communication with an exterior of the apparatus. The gasket is generally mounted on the cover assembly and has (i) a first sealing region, (ii) a second sealing region, and (iii) a second passage in communication with the first passage. The housing assembly generally has a sealing feature, a second locking feature, and a first cavity configured to hold a sensor. The sealing feature generally mates with the first sealing region of the gasket. The sensor (a) generally seals to the second sealing region of the gasket and (b) may be in communication with the exterior of the apparatus through the first passage and the second passage. The first locking feature of the cover assembly generally cooperates with the second locking feature of the housing assembly to lock the cover assembly to the housing assembly.

Hook and snap pressure sensor assembly

A system for comparing driver intent and a gear setting of a vehicle comprises a driver monitoring system including at least one driver monitoring sensor configured to capture attributes of the driver indicative of driver intent regarding an intended direction of travel. The system also comprises an evaluation processor configured to access driver data from the driver monitoring system. The evaluation processor is also configured to generate a mismatch signal in response to determining a mismatch between the driver intent and a gear setting of the vehicle. The evaluation processor may also be configured to control braking and/or acceleration of the vehicle in response to determining a mismatch between the driver intent and a gear setting of the vehicle. The system may also use data regarding an object within a threshold distance from a front or a rear of the vehicle, and/or a requested acceleration above a threshold amount.

System matching driver intent with forward-reverse gear setting

An apparatus includes a base assembly, a gasket and a housing assembly. The base assembly may have a locking feature and a bearing feature. The locking feature may have a first passage in communication with an exterior of the apparatus. The gasket may be disposed on the base assembly and may have (i) a base portion, (ii) a column portion and (iii) a second passage in communication with the first passage. The housing assembly may have a sealing feature and may be configured to hold a sensor. The sealing feature (a) may mate with the bearing feature and (b) may compress the base portion of the gasket. The sensor (a) may seal to the column portion of the gasket and (b) may be in communication with the exterior of the apparatus through the first passage and the second passage.

Rectangular snap fit pressure sensor unit

An apparatus including a first linear contact, a second linear contact and a support contact. The first linear contact and the second linear contact may each be connected to corresponding electrical terminals. The support contact may be connected to a housing. The first linear contact and the second linear contact may each provide an electrical connection between corresponding sensor contacts and the corresponding electrical terminals. The first linear contact, the second linear contact and the support contact may be arranged to create a support plane for a sensor package. The first linear contact and the second linear contact may each provide support for the sensor package along a linear peak. The apparatus may enable a secure compression fit of the sensor package within the housing.

Sensor assembly with linear contacts

A mountable sensor assembly for mounting on the sheet metal of a vehicle assembly. The mountable sensor assembly may include a sensor circuit and a sensor housing. The sensor housing may include a first portion with a cavity that receives the sensor circuit and a second portion that includes an anti-rotation tab. The sensor housing having a locking interface that fixes the location and orientation of first portion to the second portion.

Interchangeable sensor mounting

An apparatus includes a sensor assembly and a housing assembly. The sensor assembly may have (i) a package surrounding a sensor and (ii) a plurality of terminals integrated with the package. The housing assembly may have (i) a first cavity configured to receive the sensor assembly, (ii) a second cavity configured to receive an electrical connector, (iii) a plurality of ports in communication between the first cavity and the second cavity and (iv) a location feature configured to orient the housing assembly while the housing assembly is mounted to a structure. At least one rib may apply at least one force on the sensor assembly to hold the sensor assembly in the first cavity. The sensor may be outside a plane of the force. The terminals may extend through the ports from the first cavity to the second cavity.

Device with terminal-containing sensor

A sensor assembly is provided with a housing, a sensor package, and terminals. The housing may include a connector opening configured to mate with a wire harness connector. The sensor package may include conductive pads exposed in a surface of the sensor package. The terminals may be inserted into the housing and extend into the connector opening. The terminals form an electrical and mechanical connection the conductive pads of sensor package.

Sensor assembly and method for assembling a sensor connector assembly

A mountable sensor assembly for mounting on a vehicle assembly is provided. The mountable sensor assembly may include a sensor circuit, a sensor housing, a connector pin, and a clip. The sensor circuit may have at least one conducting pad. The sensor housing may include a sensor cavity that receives the sensor circuit. The sensor housing may have a connector cavity that is separated from the sensor cavity by a housing wall. The connector pins may extend through the housing wall between the connector cavity and the sensor cavity. The clip may be fastened to the sensor housing and may be formed of a conductive material. The clip may be configured to engage the conducting pad and the corresponding connector pin to provide electrical continuity between the conducting pad and the corresponding connector pin.

Lock clip for electrical sensor connection

An apparatus comprises a electronic assembly and a housing. The electronic assembly comprises a sensor module mounted on or encapsulated within a substrate. The housing generally has a sensor cavity configured to receive the electronic assembly, a connector cavity configured to connect with a wire harness connector, a wall separating the sensor cavity and the connector cavity, and a plurality of terminals having a first end extending from the wall into the sensor cavity and a second end extending from the wall into the connector cavity. The first end of each terminal is generally configured to form an electrical and mechanical connection with a respective conductive pad of the substrate. The wall separating the sensor cavity and the connector cavity generally comprises an overlap configured to set an amount of deflection experienced by the first end of each terminal when the electronic assembly is inserted in the sensor cavity.

Solderless sensor unit with substrate carrier

A sensor assembly specially adapted for use as a crash sensor for motor vehicle applications. The sensor assembly includes a connector housing assembly and a separate sensor element. The sensor element is formed with a pair of spade type terminals. The sensor element is received by a passageway within the housing assembly which further incorporates receiving terminals connected with electrical pigtail wires. The assembly housing incorporates features for secure mounting of the unit to a vehicle or other device, and provide accurate location when needed for directional sensing. The unit provides a snapfit assembly of the sensor element and includes features for preventing improper assembly of the unit and provides a desired mechanical connection between the sensor element and the associated vehicle.

Crash sensor assembly

A stroke sensor assembly for a vehicle braking system may include a stroke sensor, a sensor circuit board, and a sensor housing. The stroke sensor may be operable to detect a position of a piston within a hydraulic block. The sensor circuit board may be in communication with the stroke sensor and may be electrically connected to a plurality of terminals. The sensor housing may surround the stroke sensor and the sensor circuit board. The sensor housing may include a single mounting aperture for mounting the sensor housing to the hydraulic block. The sensor housing may include an integrally formed female electrical connector that at least partially houses the terminals. The female electrical connector may include an inlet opening through which a male electrical connector is received for electrical connection with the terminals. The female electrical connector may include one or more ramped surfaces defining the inlet opening.

Stroke sensor assembly

A compression resistant component adapted to be mounted to a surface using a mechanical fastener having a component body with a first surface and a second surface and a fastener passage defined by the component body extending from the first surface to the second surface. At least one elongated compression limiter is embedded in the component body displaced from and substantially parallel to a main longitudinal axis of the fastener passage. The elongated compression limiter if formed of a material having a greater compressive modulus that the material of which the component body is formed. When a fastener exerts a compressive force on the mounting component, the elongated compression limiter bears a portion of the compressive force exerted by the fastener on the component body, thereby allowing the component body to resist the effects of the compressive force.

Compression resistant component

A sensor assembly for a motor vehicle adapted for sensing impacts including pedestrian impacts. The sensor assembly integrates functions of pressure based sensors used in one embodiment with a compressible tube extending laterally across the front surface of the vehicle and the outboard front boundary areas of the front end of the vehicle. Both acceleration and pressure based sensors are mounted into an integrated sensor housing which is mounted in a desired position at the vehicle front fascia front boundary areas. The system optimizes pressure based sensing while providing acceleration based sensing at the lateral boundary areas where supporting structure does not enable pressure based sensing. The invention further including sensor arrangements including discrete pressure and acceleration sensors deployed for detecting pedestrian impacts at the center and front boundary areas of the vehicle front end.

Pressure and acceleration based pedestrian impact sensor assembly for motor vehicles

Remote sensor units for a vehicle are described. An apparatus may comprise a satellite housing having an electrical connector interface portion, and an electrical connector disposed within the electrical connector interface portion of the satellite housing. The electrical connector may be arranged to conduct electrical signals for an electronic component having an electronic sensor operative to monitor conditions for a vehicle, the electrical connector comprising a capture portion at a first end and a pin portion at a second end, the capture portion having a pair of opposing mechanical contact elements arranged to receive at least one edge of the electronic component. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Enhanced electronic assembly

An occupant classification system is provided based upon the use of an array of electrical switches arranged between a seat trim and a reactive surface. The switches produce selective outputs signals as an engaging surface makes contact with one or more of the switches when an occupant occupies the seat. The output signals are interpreted into a control signal to distinguish between occupants for controlling an inflatable restraint system. The occupant classification system also includes a control structure which defines a distance between the array of switches and the engaging surface that is greater than zero when the seat is unoccupied so that the switches are insensitive to the initial forces applied to the seat through the seat trim. The distance between one or more of the switches and the engaging surface decreases to zero when the occupant occupies the seat to produce the selective output signals.
