A method and system for automatically assigning employees to work plurality of cash registers when the employees report for work is described. The system and method automatically compares the employee's qualifications to the current operational status of a plurality of cash registers and any parameters that may govern the operation of the cash registers such as age requirements for the sale of alcohol. The system automatically assigns an employee to a cash register and transmits real time operational status of those cash registers to a supervisor via a wireless device.

A technique for generating terminal resource recommendations is discussed. Terminal activity status data is retrieved from a number of sensors in order to generate and render terminal resource recommendations. The activity status data is used to calculate a current active terminal recommendation indicative of the number of terminals needed to currently satisfy a particular service metric. A predicted active terminal recommendation indicative of the number of terminals needed at a specified future time period in order to satisfy a particular service metric at the specified future time period may also be generated.

A shopping cart with sensor system is used by customers of a retail store to collect and scan items to be purchased. The shopping cart with sensor system includes a shopping cart and a shopping cart sensor system. Items to be purchased are placed in the shopping cart, where they are automatically scanned by the sensor system. The shopping cart sensor system includes a frame and a sensor coupled to the frame. The frame rotates with respect to the shopping cart so that the sensor can collect product information from items in the shopping cart. A first and a second light bar and a microcomputer are also coupled to the frame. The product information is used to ring up the items a customer wishes to purchase, so the customer does not have to visit a checkout station to have their items rung up.

Described is a mobile computing device holder that mounts to a piece of furniture, specifically to the corner of a piece of furniture. The mobile computing device holder holds a mobile computing device base, such as a docking station or charger, and a mobile computing device. The mobile computing device holder includes a corner mount fixture that mounts to a corner of a piece of furniture and holds the mobile computing device base such that the mobile computing device is cradled in the mobile computing device base. The mobile computing device holder also includes a tether device that tethers the mobile computing device to the mobile computing device base so the mobile computing device can be used, but cannot be moved more than the length of the tethering device from the corner mount fixture.

A self-checkout system comprises a register belt station; an itemization station downstream from the register belt station; and a bagging station downstream from the itemization station. The register belt station, an itemization station, and bagging station are each modular and removably coupled to each other.

The high velocity checkout terminal includes first and second input terminals for selectively transporting products to a cashier station and first and second output conveyors for transporting products from the cashier station to first and second bagging stations. Exemplary embodiments are directed to a method, system and assembly for storing components of a point-of-sale (POS) station while keeping the electronic components live and updated. All non-electronic and electronic components of a POS station are disassembled. The non-electronic components except for a cash box with an open face are removed from the sales floor. The electronic components are stored within the inner cavity of the cash box. The open face of the cash box is securely covered using a shroud. The electronic components are kept live and updated using an network and electricity pole resting in a hollow opening of the cash box.
