A golf club head with a cavity at least partially filled with a non-Newtonian shear thinning filler material is disclosed herein. The filler material may comprise multiple materials, such as microbubbles or microbeads, composite polyol materials, blowing agents, and/or graphene to improve performance and dampen sound after the golf club head impacts a golf ball.

The method may include the step of applying an interlayer material before the projection resistance weld process occurs.

Methods of joining metal golf club components with projection resistance welding

Methods of joining dissimilar metal, non-cylindrical golf club components, and particularly golf club bodies and faces, using one or more solid state processes are disclosed herein. One method includes the steps of preparing a first non-cylindrical golf club component made of a first metal material, preparing a second non-cylindrical golf club component made of a second metal material that is different from the first metal material, and affixing the first non-cylindrical golf club component to the second non-cylindrical golf club component along a plane using a solid state joining process. Another method includes the steps of providing a golf club body with a first planar joining surface, providing a golf club face component with a second planar joining surface, and affixing the first planar joining surface to the second planar joining surface via linear friction welding, rotational friction welding, diffusion bonding, or ultrasonic welding.

Methods of joining metal golf club components using solid state processes

A golf club head with a face component having a variable thickness and a coating on a rear surface of the face component that provides a flat surface to which a medallion can be affixed, and methods of manufacturing such golf club heads, are disclosed herein. The coating is made from a fill material comprising a polymer and a plurality of microscopic bubbles, which preferably constitute 5-70% of the volume of the fill material. The polymer material preferably is a polyurethane having a Poisson's ratio of 0.40-0.50.

Methods of manufacturing golf club heads

A golf club head with at least one cavity including a weight that is co-molded with a fill material comprising a polymer and a plurality of microscopic bubbles, and methods of manufacturing such golf club heads, are disclosed herein. The plurality of microscopic bubbles constitutes at 5-70% of the volume of the fill material, and more preferably approximately 20-30% of the volume of the fill material. The polymer material preferably is a polyurethane having a Poisson's ratio of 0.40-0.50. The weight is preferably composed of a metal alloy with a density greater than 4 g/cc, such as steel or tungsten alloy.

The present invention relates to an iron-type golf club head having a lightweight hosel and a high, toe-ward located center of gravity. The golf club head preferably includes a hollow body with a hosel and an interior mold line that extends into the hosel and is separated from a shaft bore by a solid barrier that does not include any through-holes. An upper portion of the body may include a pocket to hold a high-density weight, and the hosel wall may include multiple through-bores to further lighten the hosel. The golf club head may also include one or more internal ribs extending from the hollow interior of the body into the interior of the hosel.
