A driveline component breather system that utilizes a first and a second valve assembly to control the intake and exhaustion of fluid within the driveline component to regulate internal pressures is provided. When the pressure within the driveline component increases the first valve closes or remains closed and the second valve opens and fluid is exhausted to the atmosphere. When the pressure within the driveline component decreases, the first valve opens and the second valve closes and fluid flows into the driveline component from an interior portion of an associated vehicle.

Two valve breather system for rear differential

A system and method for controlling a powertrain of a vehicle having an engine configured to output a variable torque, can include a transmission with a plurality of gear ratios and selectively driven by the variable torque, and a pair of wheels selectively driven by the transmission. The system can include a longitudinal acceleration sensor and a controller. The controller can be in electrical communication with the longitudinal acceleration sensor. The controller can be configured to determine an inertial value of the vehicle based on data from the longitudinal acceleration sensor prior to a shift from one of the plurality of gear ratios to another of the plurality of gear ratios. The controller can also be configured to determine a first estimate of a real-time torque value based on at least one of an engine map, the plurality of gear ratios, a torque converter map and driveline losses, and to determine a second estimate of a real-time torque value based on the inertial value and data from the longitudinal acceleration sensor, during the shift from the one of the plurality of gear ratios to the another of the plurality of gear ratios.

Powertrain for a vehcile and system and method for controlling the powertrain

A vehicle drivetrain can include a primary pair of drive wheels and a secondary pair of drive wheels and can be selectively switched between a two-wheel drive mode and a four-wheel drive mode. When the drivetrain is in the two-wheel drive mode, the secondary pair of wheels are disconnected from the prime mover and the multi-ratio transmission. Also, when the drivetrain is in the two-wheel drive mode, the components used to drive the secondary pair of drive wheels can be rotationally isolated from each of the secondary pair of wheels, the prime mover and the multi-ratio transmission.

A hydraulic vehicle clutch system and preemptive control method includes a hydraulic vehicle clutch, a vehicle speed sensing device, a shift position sensing device, and a hydraulic pressure generating system. The pressure generating system sends hydraulic fluid to the clutch at a first pressure when (1) the vehicle speed sensing device indicates that the vehicle speed is at or below a threshold vehicle speed and (2) the shift position sensing device indicates that the shift position is in a nondrive position and at a second, higher pressure when (1) the vehicle speed sensing device indicates that the vehicle speed is at or below the threshold vehicle speed and (2) the shift position sensing device indicates that the shift position is in a drive position.

Hydraulic vehicle clutch system and preemptive control method

A selectable drivetrain control for a vehicle includes a controller configured to receive input signals and issue predetermined output command signals corresponding to the status of the input signals. A first sensor is configured to provide an input signal to the controller relating to the actuation status of a brake pedal. A second sensor is configured to provide an input signal to the controller relating to the actuation status of an accelerator pedal. A stability control selector is configured to provide an input signal to the controller relating to the engagement status of a stability control system of the vehicle. A drivetrain is configured to receive output command signals from the controller. The controller issues output command signals to the drivetrain to control the operational characteristics of the drivetrain, responsive to the engagement status of the stability control system while the brake and accelerator pedals are simultaneously actuated.

Selectable drivetrain control for a vehicle

A vehicle may have an engine that provides power for locomotion; a plurality of ground engaging wheels; a clutch assembly connected to the engine and connected to at least one of the ground engaging wheels; and a turbocharger assembly connected to the engine and connected to the clutch assembly. The turbocharger assembly is operated to engage the clutch assembly to connect, for locomotion, the engine to the ground engaging wheel.
