A control valve assembly of a variable cam timing phaser of a variable cam timing system, with the variable cam timing phaser including a housing and a rotor, and with the variable cam timing system including a camshaft, includes a valve housing extending along an axis. The valve housing includes a threaded portion adapted to engage the camshaft, and a body portion spaced axially from the threaded portion. The body portion defines a body interior. The control valve assembly also includes a piston disposed in the body interior and moveable along the axis between a first position and a second position. The control valve assembly further includes a cap removably coupled to the body portion of the valve housing. The cap includes a torque driving element configured to be received by a tool for transmitting torque from the tool for fixing the cap to the body portion.

A spool valve assembly, configured to control the flow of fluid, includes a spool valve, configured to move axially along an axis to control fluid flow, having a spool cavity and a plurality of spool apertures that communicate fluid between the spool cavity and an outside surface of the spool valve; a valve sleeve, in which the spool valve is concentrically positioned, that slidably receives the spool valve; and a valve plug, received within the spool cavity, having at least one plug aperture and a plug cavity, wherein the spool apertures at least partially overlap the plug aperture(s) in a radial direction to permit the flow of fluid between the plug cavity and the outside surface within a defined flow rate variance regardless of the angular position of the valve plug relative to the angular position of the spool valve.

A biasing assembly used with a VCT device includes a torsional biasing element that is elongated and configured to engage and receive rotational motion from one of a rotor or stator of the VCT device; a rigid element that is configured to engage the other of the rotor of the stator of the VCT device and be inserted within a cavity of a camshaft with the torsional biasing element; a receiving feature that couples the rigid element to the torsional biasing element and inhibits angular movement of the rotor and the stator away from a default angular position, wherein the torsional biasing element and the rigid element are angularly displaced from a resting position to a pre-loaded position when the torsional biasing element and the rigid element engage the rotor and the stator.
