The disclosure relates to a method for determining the aging of an electronic interrupter element which is configured to open and close a power circuit. The method according to the disclosure comprises the following steps: a) initializing an aging counter NWear, b) determining the amount I of a current which flows through the electronic interrupter element upon opening the power circuit, c) determining a current-dependent aging value Nwear (I) from the amount I of the current, d) refreshing the aging counter NWear using the current-dependent aging value Nwear (I). The disclosure further relates to a computer program and to an apparatus for determining the aging of an electronic interrupter element and to a battery management system which are in particular configured to carry out the method.

Method and apparatus for determining the aging of an electronic interrupter element, in particular of a power contactor

A circuit that measures isolation resistance in a battery pack that is associated with a load includes four resistors. Two resistors are connected between terminals of the battery pack and another two resistors are connected in the load in parallel to the resistors in the battery pack. A controller operates two contactors to disconnect the battery from the load and measure first and second voltages in the battery pack and one of the two resistors. The controller operates the two contactors to connect the battery to the load and measures third and fourth voltages in the battery pack and one of the two resistors. The controller identifies the isolation resistance with reference to resistance values of the four resistors and the first, second, third, and fourth measured voltages.

System and method for high voltage system isolation resistance measurement

A system includes a plurality of batteries, first and second relays, a relay control module, and a welding indication module. The batteries are electrically connected and collectively output power for an electric motor via first and second nodes. The first relay is connected between a first output of the batteries and the first node. The second relay is connected between a second output of the batteries and the second node. The relay control module controls the first and second relays. The welding indication module commands the relay control module to open the first relay during a diagnosis period, commands the relay control module to close the second relay during the diagnosis period, and indicates whether the first relay is welded closed based on a voltage between the first and second nodes during the diagnosis period.

Welded contactor checking systems and methods

A system includes a battery control module that determines at least one temperature associated with a battery pack of an electric vehicle. An electric vehicle control module selects between a plurality of operating modes of the electric vehicle based on the at least one temperature. The plurality of operating modes includes a first mode and a second mode. In the first mode the electric vehicle control module prevents the electric vehicle from being turned on. In second mode the electric vehicle control module allows the electric vehicle to be turned on in response to a determination that the battery pack has sufficient energy to adjust the at least one temperature a predetermined amount and to drive the vehicle a predetermined distance.
