A flexible patient interface structure includes a posterior portion with at least one thin flexible membrane configured to form a seal with the patient's face in use. A wall thickness of the posterior portion is varied. An anterior portion of the flexible patient interface forms a chamber with the posterior portion and has a central gas washout vent region. A wall thickness of the anterior portion is thicker at the central gas washout vent region than at other adjacent regions. First and second laterally extending protrusions are configured to receive the breathable gas from an air delivery tube or air delivery tube connector. The central gas washout vent region is located between the first and second laterally extending protrusions and comprises an array of vent openings. Each of the first and second laterally extending protrusions terminates at a distal end that is furthest from the other laterally extending protrusion.

Respiratory mask

A respiratory mask for continuous positive airway pressure treatment includes a cushion adapted to be positioned against the face of a patient. The cushion is configured in a gasket arrangement around an entrance to the airways of the patient. The cushion is constructed from a polyurethane foam and has a thickness of greater than about 5 mm.

Delivery of respiratory therapy

A respiratory mask for use with a patient, and that is suited for use with children, includes a flexible cushion arranged to interface with and deliver air to the patient's nose. The cushion has a tube connection portion at one or both sides adjacent the patient's nares, the tube connection portion being arranged to connect to an air delivery tube. This location, plus the very low profile of the mask, allows a patient (e.g. an infant) to sleep on their face more comfortably. A more rigid support structure adjacent the cushion is provided to stabilize the cushion and prevent it from collapsing. Headgear is also provided and arranged for releasable attachment to the support structure.

A nasal or full-face mask frame includes a main body and a vent assembly provided to the main body. The vent assembly includes a plurality of holes arranged in at least one column. The holes are positioned on a relatively flat and/or non-recessed portion of the main body.

A mask assembly that includes a mask frame; a frame connector; a forehead support comprising a tube and a forehead cushion support plate, the forehead cushion support plate extending perpendicularly to a longitudinal axis of the tube; and an adjustment knob movably mounted to the frame connector, wherein the tube is movably mounted to the frame connector for linear movement with respect to said frame connector, and further wherein the tube includes at least one split that allows deflection of the tube when inserting the tube into the frame connector.

An elbow assembly for a mask system includes an elbow including a slot and a port, an anti-asphyxia valve adapted to be received within the slot and including a flap portion adapted to selectively close the port depending on the presence of pressurized gas, and a support member to secure the anti-asphyxia valve to the elbow. The support member includes a slot that is adapted to interlock with a protrusion provided to the anti-asphyxia valve.

A patient interface includes a cushioning structure including at least one hollow chamber filled with first and second discrete and/or layered filling materials and a seal forming structure formed in one piece with the cushioning structure. The seal forming structure includes a thin membrane flap that is structured to provide a seal to the patient's face. The chamber extends only around a portion of the perimeter of the cushioning structure such that the chamber with first and second filling materials is provided in cheek and lip regions of the cushioning structure and a solid silicone portion is provided in a nasal bridge region of the cushioning structure.

A respiratory mask includes a frame and a flexible structure provided to the frame and adapted to engage a patient's face. The flexible structure includes a chamber filled with a first gel and a second gel that is relatively harder than the first gel. A ratio of height of the first gel to the second gel in a lip region is in the range of about 0.25 to about 0.6.

A forehead support for a mask assembly includes a frame connector provided to a mask frame, a forehead cushion support movably mounted to the frame connector for generally linear movement between retracted and extended positions with respect to the frame connector, and an adjustment knob movably mounted to the frame connector and threadably engaged with the forehead cushion support such that turning movement of the adjustment knob causes the forehead cushion support to be moved between the retracted and extended positions. The adjustment knob includes a resilient prong having a ratchet bump. The ratchet bump is adapted to selectively engage a series of ridges provided to the frame connector to provide indexed incremental adjustment.
