A transmission gear synchronizer includes a sliding sleeve a hub and a blocker ring. The sliding sleeve has an inner surface defining a sleeve spline. The hub is received within the sliding sleeve. The hub has a plurality of gear teeth extending radially outward from a root diameter of the hub. The plurality of gear teeth are configured to engage the sleeve spine. A notch is disposed proximate the root diameter of the hub and spaced apart from the plurality of gear teeth. The blocker ring comprises a thermoplastic material. The blocker ring comprises a thermoplastic material. The blocker ring has a plurality of molded clutch teeth extending radially outward from a root diameter of the blocker ring. The plurality of molded clutch teeth are configured to engage the sleeve spline in response to the sliding sleeve engaging the blocker ring during a transmission shift event.

Transmission gear synchronizer blocker ring formed of a thermoplastic material

A compound transmission shift mechanism is disclosed. The shift mechanism includes a plurality of gears configured on at least one transmission shaft with at least one synchronizer configured to engage at least two of the plurality of gears. The shift mechanism includes a control system configured to engage and position the synchronizer into alignment with the at least two of the plurality of gears. Additionally, the shift mechanism includes at least one damping assembly configured on the control system and operatively connected to the synchronizer.

A transmission gear synchronizer may include a sliding sleeve, a hub configured to be received within the sliding sleeve, and a blocker ring disposed adjacent the hub. The blocker ring may have a plurality of molded clutch teeth and a plurality of molded grooves extending axially along an inner surface of the blocker ring.

Initial engaging movement of a shift sleeve ( ) from a neutral position activates pre-energizers ( or ) effect engagement of the friction surfaces for engaging blocker surfaces ( ) that prevent asynchronous engagement of the jaw teeth. The pre-energizers include clearances and centering forces to prevent momentary engagement of the friction surfaces associated with the reverse gear and the forward gear when the shift sleeve is moved back to the neutral position from a position of engaged the jaw teeth ( or ) associated respectively with the forward and reverse gears.

Double-acting baulkring-type synchronizer

A synchronizer ( ) includes cone clutch friction surfaces ( and ) for frictionally synchronizing gears ( ) to a shaft ( ), and jaw clutch teeth ( ) engagable with jaw teeth ( ) defined on a shift sleeve ( ) for positive connecting the gears to the shaft. A plurality of self-energizing/blocker members ( ) transmit shift force applied to the shift sleeve and self-energizing force to friction rings ( ) via blocker surfaces ( ) defined by blocker members ( ) that have opposite ends ( ) attached to the friction rings. The blocker members also disengage the friction surfaces of one cone clutch prior to engagement of to the friction surfaces of the other cone.

Double acting synchronizer

A baulkring-type synchronizer ( ) includes multiple cone friction surfaces ( ) and jaw clutch spline teeth ( ) for frictionally synchronizing and positive connecting gears ( ) to a shaft ( ). Inner rings respectively define the friction surfaces ( ) and ramp surfaces ( ) that move a boost member radially outward to engage self-energizing surfaces ( and ) to provide additive self-energizing forces in response to limited rotation of the inner rings by synchronizing torque.

Synchronizer

A baulkring-type synchronizer ( ) includes cone clutch friction surfaces ( and ) for frictionally synchronizing gears ( ) to a shaft ( ), and jaw clutch teeth ( ) engagable with jaw teeth defined on opposite ends of splines ( ) for positive connecting the gears to the shaft. Pluralities of rigid self-energizing members ( ) are drivingly interposed between blocker teeth ( ) affixed to baulkrings ( ) and self-energizing ramp surfaces ( ) defined on an outer circumference of a hub affixed to the shaft ( ). A shift sleeve ( ) is slidably splined to the hub ( ) and is moved by a shift force and an additive force provided by the self-energizing ramp surfaces. Both forces react against the blocker teeth to engage the friction surfaces. A plurality of circumferentially spaced apart c-shaped rigid members ( ) disengage the friction surface of one baulkring prior to engagement of the friction surface of the other baulking in response to the shift sleeve ( ) being moved by the shift force from a position having the jaw teeth thereof engaged with the jaw teeth affixed of one drive toward a position for engaging the jaw teeth thereof with the jaw teeth affixed to the other drive.
