The invention relates to a ceramic metal halide lamp having a ceramic discharge vessel, characterized in that the discharge vessel encloses a discharge space which comprises an electrode, which electrode is electrically connected to a conductor outside the discharge vessel by means of a feedthrough comprising an Ir wire, the feedthrough being gas-tight mounted in an extended plug, also referred to as vup, of the discharge vessel, the feedthrough comprising an electrode&#x2014;feedthrough combination made up of at least three parts with a W or W&#x2014;Re rod or a Mo or Mo alloy wire extending out of the vup for burner mounting, which W or W&#x2014;Re or MO or MO alloy wire is welded to the Ir wire.

Ceramic metal halide lamp with feedthrough comprising an iridium wire

A ceramic burner, a ceramic metal halide lamp, and a method of sealing the ceramic burner is provided. The ceramic burner comprises a discharge vessel enclosing a discharge space that is provided with an ionizable filling comprising one or more halides. The discharge vessel comprises a ceramic wall arranged between a first and a second end portion. The first and the second end portion are arranged such that current supply conductors are passed through the end portions to respective electrodes arranged in the discharge space for maintaining a discharge. The ceramic wall of the discharge vessel comprises a tube for introducing the ionizable filling into the discharge vessel during manufacture of the ceramic burner. The tube projects from the ceramic wall and is provided with a gastight seal. The effect of using the tube is that it enables the gastight seal to be arranged away from the ceramic wall of the discharge vessel at a projecting end of the tube.

Metal halide lamp and vehicle headlamp

A metal halide lamp is disclosed comprising an elongated discharge vessel, preferably made of a ceramic material, surrounded by an outer envelope and having a wall which encloses a discharge space containing an inert gas, such as xenon, and an ionizable filling, wherein at both ends in said discharge space an electrode is arranged between which a discharge arc can be maintained along a discharge path, wherein one end of the discharge vessel is mounted in a mounting base, said lamp comprising a band-shaped light-shielding strip extending laterally of the discharge path, and a lead-back conductor supplying current from the mounting base to the electrode at the other end of the discharge vessel, wherein, seen in cross section, the lead-back conductor is positioned within the sector defined by the two lines through the center of the discharge vessel and the edges of said strip. The invention relates to a metal halide lamp which is provided with a discharge vessel having a ceramic wall and enclosing a discharge space. Two electrodes having tips at a mutual distance EA are positioned in the discharge space, which contains besides Xe also an ionizable filling with NaI and CeI . The discharge vessel has an internal diameter Di at least over the length EA. According to the invention it holds that Di<1.4 mm and also that the relation EA/Di<5 is complied with.
