A Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) system, to be mounted on a helmet of a user, includes a tinted visor, coupled with the helmet, located in front of the face of the user when the tinted visor is in an operative position. The tinted visor further includes a patch, which is located in front of an eye of the user. The patch has greater light transmission than the rest of the tinted visor. The HMD system includes an image generator, coupled with the helmet, generating an image to be displayed to the user. The HMD system further includes an optical combiner, coupled with the helmet, and located substantially on the optical axis of the user's eye. The combiner reflects the generated image toward the eye, and transfers light rays of an outside scene toward the eye.

Helmet mounted display system adjustable for bright ambient light conditions

According to some embodiments of the invention, an image intensifier is provided. The image intensifier comprises a layer of electrically isolated electrode segments each able to receive an electrical potential independently of the other electrode segments. The electrode segments may be coated onto an inner surface of an entrance window and each of the electrode segments is coated with a photocathode segment. Alternatively, the electrode segments are positioned between a photocathode layer and a micro channel plate.

Segmented image intensifier

Helmet mounted system is provided which includes a helmet which is custom fitted to a user, an optical system which is removably attachable to the helmet, an attachment which is fixedly attached to the optical system, and a mount which is custom fitted and fixedly attached to the helmet. The mount is located on the helmet such that once the attachment is snap-fit onto the mount, the optical system is in place for use by the user, without any further adjustment.

Non-adjustable helmet mounted optical systems

A helmet mounted display for mounting on a helmet includes a supporting structure removably mounted at at least one point to the helmet, a visor, mounted on the structure, and at least one optical system, for projecting an image on the visor from the side of the pilot's head. The at least one optical system is side mounted on the supporting structure, and includes a source of light and a digital reflective device or a reflective addressing device. The digital reflective device contains a plurality of micromirrors for deflecting the light source in a pixelated manner via a plurality of pixels. The deflection of the micromirror can be controlled as a function of time.

Optical system for day and night use

A display, for example, for a visor attached to a helmet, the visor having a partially reflecting semi-transparent portion in the view of the wearer and an optical projector for projecting an image onto the semi-transparent portion for reflection therefrom. The semi-transparent portion has a relatively higher reflectivity in a central area thereof and a relatively lower reflectivity in an annular area outside the central area. In one aspect of the invention, the head mounted display includes a projector having a display source whereon an image is formed and an optical system for focusing the image at separate sagittal and tangential foci between the image-forming surface and the semi-transparent portion.

Helmet mounted display

A semiconductor diode laser has at least one output beam emitted from an emission aperture from a facet of the laser. An external optical feedback resonator redirects the output beam back into the laser emission aperture. The resonator comprises a reflective surface mirror on the facet laterally adjacent to the laser emission aperture and a spherical mirror spatial positioned from the laser facet to receive the output beam and image the same onto the facet mirror and, then, reimage the beam reflected from the facet mirror back into the laser emission aperture. The improvement comprises the spherical mirror being spaced from the center of the facet a distance substantially equal to the radius of curvature of the mirror so that the reimaging of the beam provides a spot size substantially equal to the spot size of the emission aperture or the beam waist, W.sub.0, at the laser facet. The alignment of the spherical mirror relative to the laser facet in directions laterally of and rotationally about the radius of curvature of the spherical mirror is insensitive to limited relative movement between the spherical mirror and the laser in those directions.
