A porous filter medium forms a filter or liner for extracting hydrocarbons from vapors emitted from a motorized vehicle, device or appliance fuel tank. The filter medium is a polymer network of a foam, nonwoven or collection of particles and has fine pore size and a butane working capacity (W/W %) of 4.0 percent or higher.

Filter materials for adsorbing hydrocarbons

A fuel reservoir for a liquid fuel cell particularly useful for portable electronic devices or for a reformer, includes (a) a container defining a volume for holding a liquid fuel; (b) a wicking structure positioned within the volume and into which at least one portion of the liquid fuel wicks and from which said liquid fuel subsequently may be metered, such as by pumping; (c) a retainer to hold the wicking structure in a desired orientation within the container; and (d) an outlet for the liquid fuel that is in communication with the wicking structure. A method of dispensing liquid fuel and a method of assembling a fuel cartridge are also disclosed.

Orientation independent liquid fuel reservoir

A static dissipative flexible polyurethane foam is formed under free rise expansion conditions from a polyether graft polyol and an isocyanate, wherein one or more anti-static additives are incorporated into the reaction mix in an amount from 0.10 to 20 parts by weight. Water is added in an amount of from 0.2 to 1.0 parts per weight. Upon curing, the foam has a density in the range of 6 to 20 pounds per cubic foot, a surface resistivity below 1&#xd7;10ohms/square, and a pore size in the range of 100 to 250 pores per inch. The foam may be fabricated (cut or shaped) to form a shaped article, such as a roller, a clean room wipe, a cosmetic applicator or a packaging element.

Static dissipative polyurethane foams

An ester polyurethane foam is prepared by reacting a mixture of one or more polyester polyols with one or more isocyanates and one or more silicone surfactants in the presence of a blowing agent, such as water, and other additives, such as catalysts. The cured foam is chemically treated in a caustic solution to form a hydrophilic ester polyurethane foam having a water absorption rate of at least 20 pounds of water per square foot per minute, preferably at least 25 pounds of water per square foot per minute. The foam also has greater water holding capacity and wet strength than cellulose.

Hydrophilic ester polyurethane foams

Polyurethane foams formed under vacuum (below atmospheric pressure) conditions using toluene diisocyanate or a specific mixture of polyisocyanates with a specific mixture of polyether and graft polyols produces a foam with lower density and better flame retardancy than latex foam, but with equally high resiliency. The foam-forming ingredients are mixed together and foamed under controlled pressures in the range 0.6 to 0.95 bar (absolute), preferably 0.8 to 0.95 bar (absolute). The resulting foam has a ball rebound above about 65 percent.

Latex replacement polyurethane foams with improved flame retardancy

Hydrophilic polyurethane foams with rapid wet out properties are formed from the reaction product of an MDI-based or polymeric MDI-based isocyanate capped prepolymer with an aqueous component, such as water, and about 0.5 to 2.0 parts by weight, based on 100 parts by weight prepolymer, of a silicone glycol copolymer liquid surfactant with a polyether portion, said surfactant having a viscosity of about 175 to 350 CST at 25.degree. C., a molecular weight in the range of about 1500 to 20,000, with the polyether portion having a molecular weight in the range of about 200 to 2000 and containing about 40 to 100 percent by weight ethylene oxide. The surface of the hydrophilic foam wets out or absorbs droplets of water in less than thirty (30) seconds, preferably instantaneously (less than one second).
