An aircraft flight surface control system and method simultaneously provides the benefits of both an active/active system architecture and in active/standby system architecture. The system is preferably implemented using hydraulic actuator assemblies and electromechanical actuator assemblies coupled to the same flight control surface. During normal system operations the electromechanical actuator assemblies are energized to supply a relatively minimal force to associated flight control surfaces. In effect, the electromechanical actuators, although energized, may be pulled along by the associated hydraulic actuator assemblies, until needed. Thus, the electromechanical actuator assemblies are controlled in a manner that closely resembles the active/standby architecture.

Load optimized redundant flight control surface actuation system and method

A fly-by-wire (FBW) system () is coupled to cockpit controls () of an aircraft for controlling the aircraft, and an automatic flight control system (AFCS) () is coupled to the FBW system for maintaining the aircraft in stable flight. An unauthorized-flight detector () is coupled to the FBW system and coupled to the AFCS, and is arranged to carry out () a transfer of control of the FBW system from the cockpit controls to the AFCS, in response to a predetermined event.

Method and apparatus for preventing an unauthorized flight of an aircraft

In a servo loop closure for an aircraft control surface, surface position from the control surface synchro is utilized to augment the servo motor rate feedback so as to reduce limit cycle oscillation. The high frequency content of surface position is suppressed by substituting a percentage of the low frequency content thereof for the same percentage of low frequency servo motor rate. This arrangement reduces control column activity normally associated with high effectiveness ratios of surface position for servo motor rate substitution.

Vehicle control surface position feedback compensator for reducing

An estimator for determining the distance of a moving vehicle to a stationary position includes the determination of actual and estimated velocities of the vehicle along a selected path. An up-dated distance estimate is established by multiplying estimated distance by the ratio of the actual velocity to the estimated velocity. The up-dated estimate is then utilized as the estimated and another up-dated distance is obtained. Iterations continue until the ratio approaches unity indicating that the estimated distance is approximately equal to the actual distance.

Distance to a stationary location estimator for a moving vehicle

A servo system simulator utilizing an electronic equivalent of the servomotor to drive a programmable electronic load which mimics the actual load encountered by the servo system simulated.
