Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for optimizing the execution order of a set of test programs that includes at least one system interval dependent test program are disclosed. The optimized execution order may be determined by identifying each non-system interval dependent test program that can be executed during each instance of a system interval without impacting execution of system interval dependent test programs. The optimized execution order minimizes a total execution time of the set of test programs.

Optimizing execution order of system interval dependent test cases

A computer system includes memory and a processor configured to manage memory allocation. Aspects include receiving a request to execute a computer program and obtaining a learned data file for the computer program, the learned data file including a history of memory allocation requests and memory access requests by the computer program. Aspects also include receiving a memory allocation request from the computer program and allocating one or more pages of a virtual memory to the computer program, wherein a size of the one or more pages is based on the learned data file. Aspects further include backing at least one of the one or more pages of the virtual memory in the real memory prior to receiving an access request for the at least one of the one or more pages based on the learned data file.

Pre-backing virtual storage using historical learned data

Aspects relate to a computer system and a computer implemented method for resolving abnormal contention on the computer system. The method includes detecting, using a processor and at a hypervisor level of the computer system, abnormal contention of a serially reusable resource caused by a first virtual machine. The abnormal contention includes the first virtual machine experiencing resource starvation of computer system resources used for processing the first virtual machine, causing the first virtual machine to block the serially reusable resource from a second virtual machine that is waiting to use the serially reusable resource. The method also includes adjusting resource allocation at the hypervisor level of the computer system resources for the first virtual machine, processing the first virtual machine based on the resource allocation, and releasing the serially reusable resource by the first virtual machine in response to the first virtual machine processing.

Method and apparatus for resolving contention at the hypervisor level

Aspects relate to a computer implemented method for resolving abnormal contention on a computer system. The method includes detecting, using a processor, abnormal contention of a serially reusable resource caused by a first process, wherein the abnormal contention includes the first process blocking the serially reusable resource from a second process that is waiting to use the serially reusable resource. The method includes collecting, in a computer storage medium, resource data in a serialized resource history database and analyzing the resource data associated with the serially reusable resource and adjusting, using the processor, resource allocation for the first process of the serially reusable resource based on the resource data. The method also includes processing, using the processor and the serially reusable resource, the first process based on the resource allocation and releasing, using the processor, the serially reusable resource by the first process in response to the first process completing.

Method and apparatus for resolving contention in a computer system

Embodiments of the present invention provide systems, methods, and computer program products for managing requests for acquiring one or more resources in a computing environment. In one embodiment, successful acquisition of the one or more resources is determined. Embodiments of the present invention provide systems, methods, and computer program products for initiating a synchronous request to acquire the one or more resources, responsive to determining that the acquisition of the one or more resources is not successful.

Management of asynchronous and synchronous resource requests

Embodiments of the present invention provide methods, program products, and systems for reusing a duplex storage medium resource. Embodiments of the present invention can be used to transition between duplex media by determining that a prior transition from a first duplex storage media to a second duplex storage media is being performed and reinitializing the second duplex storage media to receive, for storage, duplex data transferred from the first duplex storage media. Embodiments of the present invention can be used to reduce potential collisions with naming conventions and reduce unwanted delay that results in forcing an offload by managing the recovery medium and keeping it available through policy based medium changes.

Reusing a duplexed storage resource

Managing requests for acquiring resources in a computing environment. A first request to acquire resources is received. Whether the resources have been pre-acquired is determined. If the resources have not been pre-acquired, a token registering interest of a first thread in the first request is subscribed to. If the acquisition of the resources is not successful, whether a prior synchronous request has been initiated by a thread for the first request is determined. If a prior synchronous request has not been initiated, a synchronous request is initiated to acquire the resources. If the resources have not been pre-acquired for a second received request, an interest is registered of a second thread in the first request using the token. If the acquisition of the one or more resources is successful, a thread is notified of the successful acquisition, and the interest of the second thread is unregistered in the first request.
