One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that tests the motion performance of an electronic display system, wherein the electronic display system includes a display, graphics processing software, graphics processing circuitry, and an interface coupling the display and the graphics processing circuitry. The system starts by receiving a request to measure an amount of distortion of an object in motion. In response to the request, the system measures the amount of distortion of the object in motion. In a variation on this embodiment, measuring the amount of distortion of the object in motion involves placing a ruler on a boundary of the object where the distortion occurs, increasing the width of the ruler until it covers the distortion, and then measuring the width to determine the size of the distortion.

Method and apparatus for detecting motion-induced artifacts in video displays

A method and apparatus for driving a plurality of addressable elements consist of driving and selectively enabling one or more addressable elements arranged as an M&times;N array using two drivers. A first and a second driver are used to drive first and second signals at slightly different frequencies on a first and a second display conductor. A plurality of pixels, coupled between the first and second display conductors, is addressed according to a pixel location in which the first signal is approximately in phase with the second signal. The pixel scan rate is proportional to the difference between the first and second signal frequencies. The first and second conductors may contain a plurality of delay elements and tap-off points. Conducting lines may be terminated by their characteristic impedance to prevent any reflection of the traveling signals. The periods of the first and second signals may be greater than or approximately equal to a propagation delay of between first and last tap-off points on the first and second conductors, respectively. The pulse width of the first and second signals may be less than or approximately equal to a propagation time of the first and second signal between adjacent tap-off points on the first and second display conductors, respectively. The matrix display pixels are selectively enabled by modulating an amplitude of the first signal and/or an amplitude of the second signal when the selected pixel location(s) is addressed so that the voltage differential between the first and second signals is sufficient to enable the addressed pixel.

Method and apparatus for selective enabling of addressable display elements

A method and apparatus for driving a plurality of addressable elements consist of driving and selectively enabling one or more addressable elements arranged as an M.times.N array using two drivers. Method and apparatus for selective enabling of addressable display

A system and method for testing and evaluating a display device and its associated display drive circuitry through computer generated graphic test patterns which are dynamically alterable. The system comprises a display device for displaying the test patterns, a computer for generating the test patterns which typically are dynamically alterable and a communication line for coupling the computer and the display device together so that the computer can transmit information forming the test patterns to the display device. The test patterns are monitored visually to detect video artifacts. Alternatively, monitoring may be performed by measuring devices such as signal analyzing devices or optical testing devices. The method for evaluating and detecting video artifacts of a display device and its associated display drive circuitry is performed through at least three steps. First, a test program is executed by the processor to produce a plurality of video signals collectively forming a specific test pattern which are transferred into the display device through the display drive circuitry. Second, an input device is re-mapped to that it can provide information for dynamically altering the specific test pattern. Finally, evaluation of the display device and the display drive circuitry is performed based on visual evaluation, optical evaluation by an optical testing device or signal evaluation by an signal testing device.
