New dicyclic thiophene compounds having the structural formula ##STR1## wherein X is an ester or cyano group and Y is a substituted amino group. The compounds are useful as agricultural chemicals and particularly as ripeners for sugarcane.

Fungicidally and bactericidally active thiocarbamates of the formula: ##STR1## where R.sup.1 represents a methyl, methoxy, halo or trifluoromethyl group; R.sup.2 represents hydrogen, a methyl, methoxy, chloro or nitro group; R.sup.3 represents hydrogen or a methoxy group; and R.sup.4 is an ortho- or para-hydroxy group. The compounds find particular use as slimicides and as preservatives for various industrial preparations.

Antibacterial and fungicidal S-phenylthiocarbamates

Fungicidally and bactericidally active compounds of the formula ##SPC1## Where R is allyl, cyclohexyl, naphthyl and preferably, ##SPC2## Where R.sub.1 is methoxy, ethoxy, methylthio, ethoxycarbonyl; R.sub.2 is H, methoxy, chloro, methyl, nitro; R.sub.3 is H, chloro. The compounds are used as fungistats and bacteriostats in soap and shampoo formulations and as preservatives in various industrial preparations. Certain di-8-quinolyl esters of arylenedicarbamic acid and poly(8-quinolyl esters) of carbanilic acid are found to possess activity against bacteria and fungi.
